Hello,

new member seeking assistance and delighted to have foundthis site, stunning work guys and gals :thumbsup2:

laptop (sonyVaio, Win7 64bit, intel core i5 ) hasbeen having a few issues with windows updates and general BSOD events.

 Windows Updatefailing to install kb2972211 / kb 3065822/kb2446710 updates with the error code 80073712 and KB 2937610 failing with error code 8007000D.

Have tried a few of the suggested Microsoft fixes , checking surt logs etc, and there are some missing files.

I attach the Components file , hope this works :

System File Checker (SFC)
Follow the instructions below to run a SFC scan on your system and to provide the CBS log in your next reply;
  • On Windows Vista & 7, click on the Windows Start Menu, then enter cmd in the search box, right-click on the cmd icon and select
    Spcusrh.png
    Run as Administrator
  • On Windows 8, drag your cursor in the bottom-left corner, and right-click on the metro menu preview, then select Command Prompt (Admin);
  • On Windows 8.1, right click on the Windows logo in the bottom-left corner and select Command Prompt (Admin);
  • Enter the command below and press on Enter;

    Note: There's a space between "sfc" and "/scannow";
  • Once the scan is complete, enter the command below and press on Enter

Note: Please note that the CBS.log is volatile, which means that if you don't upload it after the SFC scan is completed, it won't contains the information from the scan anymore. So archive it and upload it as soon as you can.
 
It seems like nothing's wrong in the CBS log. We'll run SURT just in case. Follow the instructions below please.

System Update Readiness Tool (SURT)
 
Looks like your Registry is quite corrupted. Before we go forward with fixing it, I would like to make sure that your RAM and/or HDD aren't failing. We'll start by testing out the RAM sticks. I would like you to follow the instructions in the thread below to test your RAM sticks using Memtest86+.

You have to test each stick individually, and when one is failing (it have errors on it), it'll need to be changed.

the memtest is showing errors ( in red-similar to the example on the link you sent).

There is only one memory module 4GB RAM with two available slots. I will try the other slot, but I suspect the memory module is bad, so if the slot switch doesn't achieve a better result. then I will order two new memory modules, to increase RAM to 8GB (the max for system), and to have the ability to remove a bad one if the same occurs in the future and still have a functioning system.

Feel free to comment if any of my assumptions/suggestions are dumb!

Is there anything else we can do at the moment, or do I need to resolve the memory module/RAM first ?

Your assumptions/suggestions aren't dumb, you are right in what you just said. If Memtest86+ returned error on the RAM stick, it means that it's bad and it needs to be replaced. And it's logical to test every RAM sticks on a system to make sure that you remove the bad ones, and keep the good ones.

This being said, I would wait until you get new RAM stick(s) before fixing your corruptions, since if you keep on running Windows with your current RAM sticks (assuming they are both bad), it'll just create more and we'll have to fix it multiple times for nothing.

Alright :) We'll just run SURT once more to make sure that no extra corruption was created during that time.

System Update Readiness Tool (SURT) - Scan
Follow the instructions below to run a scan with the System Update Readiness Tool (SURT) and provide a log;
  • Download the right version of SURT for your system;
    • Your version of Windows is:
  • Once downloaded, execute the installer, and go throught the installation (this process can take around 15-20 minutes);
  • On completion, a log will be created in C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log;
  • Attach this log in your next reply;

Retrieving the COMPONENTS Hive
Follow the instructions below to retrieve your COMPONENTS Hive and send me it.
  • Open your Windows Explorer, and navigate to the C:\Windows\System32\Config folder;
  • In this folder, find the COMPONENTS file (there's no extension), and copy it to your Desktop;
    Note: If you receive an error message saying that the COMPONENTS file is in use, restart your computer and try again. If the error message persist, let me know.
  • Right-click on it, and select Send to... and choose Compressed (zipped) folder;
  • Upload the file on Dropbox, Google Drive or OneDrive and post the download URL for it here;
