Hi All,

After attempting several methods... some success but still - no cigar! (sfc scannow,kb947821 MS Standalone, ccleaner, WindowsUpdateDiag, stop/start update-services etc.) Went from 80+ updates down to 62 updates down to 30+ and currently "Checking for updates" but 'going nowhere
Following instructions from your-good-selves on this forum, I include the successful sfcfix.txt and CBSfolder zipped: (50+MB) may have to follow shortly.

Shall await your response with much anticipation and gratitude.

Thank you for your assistance. I shall ignore the 'windows update' issues until your genius/angels soothe away my WindowsStress.

Kindest Regards,

Ben

Thank you, Willy2, for the suggestion.

Ran svchost lookup and can report as follows: wuauserv is (only) 48.2MB which is as much as but no more than any of the other services running. BUT <------- (big but)

I have resolved the update issues and now have an up-to-date win7 :-)

Thanks all.

Ben

ps. SOLVED

Dear All,

All updates completed!

Because it takes (a long) time - be patient. If you're on a slow internet connection it may be better to download the updates all-at-once (from Microsoft) and manually do the updates "offline".

If anyone needs more information about how I succeeded, all I can say is: Each "fix" was a partial 'fix' and I don't know which one (fix) clinched it in the end. The aha moment came when I read someone's solution which was about leaving 'it' (windows update) running 24/7 "and on the fifth day" he woke up and .... voila! Windows had 'found' 80+ updates (they must have been AWOL) and were waiting to be installed!

Keep going - Good Luck!
Thanks be to Sysnative and everyone else 'out there' for your interest and collaborative spirit.
