Just as the title describes, My computer has been unable to install windows 7 SP1 (KB976932) for a few months now (it tries to automatically install every time I shut down my computer but fails) with the same error code 800B0100 every time. I've scoured the internet looking at all kinds of fix's for this error but ultimately failed and gave up.

I've tried using the windows update readiness tool (Didn't work)
the Microsoft windows update troubleshooter tool (It did something as the error code changed to 80080008 but after i restarted my computer it returned to 800B0100)
tried running the command prompt sfc /scannow (was able to find corruption but unable to fix them)
and a few other things i've found on other forums, I've tried using these fix's with my anti-virus software on and off, restarting and god only knows what else and everything has failed.

if you guys can finally relieve me of this headache i would be really grateful.

attached is the SFCFix report that came from running the program offered on the forum introduction View attachment SFCFix.txt

my computer runs: Windows 7 Home Premium

my Internet security provider is: Norton Internet Security

Thanks in advance for any help provided

Customer Experience report successfully uploaded. Thank you for participating. For more information, see the Microsoft Customer Experience Improvement Program on the Microsoft web site.

it said the errors were fixed, so i tried to install the update again, and it got to the end of the configuration stage (which it had never gotten to before) before stating that it failed, and reverted the changes.
i'll attempt to install it again to see if it was a 1 time thing or not.

if it fails again should i run the Systems Update Readiness Tool again, and send the resulting CheckSUR file?

thanks again for the help your providing it's produced more results than i could achieve by myself.

sort of, the service pack installs properly, it prompts me to restart, it goes through windows configuration, but when it hits 100% it says configuration failed and begins to revert changes

I've used both windows update and the full installer via the link you provided,

attached is a screenshot of the window that appears after attempting to install the service pack through the full installer

Looks like you have one current pending sector on your disk that has not been successfully reallocated (yet). This will cause read timeouts and data corruption for whichever file happens to be stored there.

Let's run chkdsk.

WARNING:: This can cause data loss, back up any files you value before continuing.

Command Prompt

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Click on the Start
    Start%20Orb.jpg
button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
  2. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
  3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following command into it then press enter

chkdsk /f

You should get the following message:
Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another
process. Would you like to schedule this volume to be
checked the next time the system restarts? (Y/N)

Type 'Y' and then press enter.
On the next restart, chkdsk should run.
When your computer has finished the disk check and is at the desktop, Download ListChkdskResult.exe (by SleepyDude) and save the file to your desktop.
Once the file has been downloaded please go to your desktop and double click on ListChkdskResult.exe

Copy the text from the notepad window that appears and paste it into your reply.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

also while the chkdsk was running i left my computer to do some other stuff but when i came back windows had restarted but there was a message box saying: error, windows experienced and unexpected shutdown, it said this was due to a bluescreen

Please follow the same instructions to run chkdsk again.

I'd like to see the minidump file for that blue screen error as well.
Navigate to C:\Windows\Minidumps then copy and paste the folder to your Desktop.
Right click on the Minidumps folder on your Desktop and choose Send To -> Compressed (zipped) Folder.
Attach the Minidump.zip file with your reply.
If the file is too large to attach, upload it to DropBox, OneDrive, or SendSpace (or any other service).

here is the results from the chkdsk:
