I've run the usual troubleshooter and System update readiness tool with no joy. The CheckSUR log file shows 10 errors and I've uploaded a copy of the log with this post. Hoping someone can help me avoid having to do a Windows repair install Thanks in advance Mike Attachments CheckSUR.log 3.3 KB · Views: 1

I found a program called KB_Extract.exe (although I guess I could have used a command line to achieve the same result) and this allowed me to extract the relevant package files from the Windows Update identified by the KB number in the CheckSUR log file. You post did come in useful though as it confirmed this was the correct course of action and Microsoft's official guide is to create a folder in the Temp\CheckSUR folder called Packages which seems to be incorrect as they need to go in the Temp\CheckSUR\Servicing\Packages folder as shown in your post. SP1 has now successfully installed and another 150+ updates are currently installing. Thanks again Mike
