Hello my genius friends at the forum I have a conundrum with my windows media player I have tried everything up under the sun to fix this but to my disappointment I could not fix this problem, here is some of the things I've tried ,reset dll , turned of sharing media, turned off and on windows media windows features, turned off running windows media in the task manager ,sfc scannow, chkdsk , trouble shooting in the control panel fix, copy and paste a command in cmd , and other things to no avail , so I come to you guys and gals as humbly as can and ask for your help. Who can untie this gordian knot. The library is corrupt and the media player configuration settings might be set incorrectly. I also download different codec pack to help but to no avail my friends. Thank for your time and attention

Hey softwaremaniac it's a good thing that I just looked at my cell phone because I was just about to try something crazy like uninstall the media player from program files and the program 86 and reinstall media player 12 from the web. I have the k-lite codec mega pack and use to have the community codec pack and I also have VlC Avg I don't have but the divx codec maybe included in the Vlc codecs.

Let's try the following:

Step#1 - Capture Process Monitor Trace
1. Download and run Process Monitor. Leave this running while you perform the next steps.
2. Cause the error again just like you have in the past.
3. Stop Process Monitor as soon as it fails. You can simply do this by clicking the magnifying glass on the toolbar as shown below.

4. Select the File menu...Save... and save the file to your desktop. This is likely the default location. The name (unless changed) will be LogFile.PML. This is fine.
5. Zip up and provide the link to the LogFile.PML file as well as your CBS.log Examples of services to upload to are Dropbox or OneDrive or SendSpace.

Unfortunately, you have not done this correctly. You just posted a link to a post in this thread.

You need to go to one of the sites for file sharing and once the upload is done, paste the link here.

It appears you have upload a shortcut to your CBS.log.

Go to your CBS folder, which is located at: C:\Windows\Logs,

Copy it to your Desktop by right-clicking it and selecting Copy.

Go to your Desktop and right-click the blank space on it. Select Paste.

I use to be good at navigating the forum site but it seem that I need to get acquainted with the everything all over again.

My apologies. As I primarily do Windows Update, I've requested the CBS.log. I do not need it. The PML file is enough.

Let's gather more information:

Step#1 - FRST Fix
NOTICE: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on that particular machine. Running this on another machine may cause damage to your operating system
1. Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop.
Note: You need to run the 64-bit Version so please ensure you download that one.
2. Download the attached fixlist.txt and save it to the Desktop.
Note. It's important that both files, FRST64 and fixlist.txt are in the same location or the fix will not work (in this case...the desktop).
3. Run FRST64 by Right-Clicking on the file and choosing Run as administrator.
4. Press the Fix button just once and wait. If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally. After that let the tool complete its run.
5. When finished FRST64 will generate a log on the Desktop (Fixlog.txt). Please post the contents of it in your reply.

Yes they work but how they work is the key for example, when windows 7 media player was working I could play a video fold and the media player would play the whole folder in order starting with the first to the last with the Vlc the play back starts where it's wants.

Good morning yea the Vlc plays good but cannot play a video folder in order the way that the windows media player did or like the k-lite home media plays the whole folder in order with the Vlc I would have to go inside the folder and drag and drop those video into it's play list and start the play back, no right click option with VLC on the folder only inside the video folder., BTW the home media player (k-lite) is doing everything that the windows media player use to do. The windows 7 media player plays nothing any more not even the cd's or dvd player.

Update from last reply I deleted the windows7 media player from program files and would deleted that folder in program files 86 but there was no folder there, I when to windows features and in safe mode turned off windows media, then to windows repair tool by major geeks and check the first 5 boxes dealing with permissions and fixes internet explorer and run a registry cleaner and and turned off media player from task manager and disable media player from services and now Windows media player run only from program files media folder that was re-created .Here is the path that I must take for windows media player to play slightly c\gateway\program files\windows media player wmplayer.exe. Still looking and searching for solutions and answers Btw it only plays whats inside the library video any other location of videos it will not play. Weird isn't

  1. Open Command Prompt as Administrator (Click Start, Type cmd, right Click Command Prompt, select Run as Administrator)
  2. Type regsvr32 jscript.dll and press enter.
  3. A dialog will pop up. Click OK.
  4. Now type regsvr32 vbscript.dll and press enter again.
  5. Click OK again.
  6. Close Command Prompt and try opening the file again.
