Hi, I have recently had a problem with a Windows 7 laptop which refuses to update. When I go to the update window and check for updates it says "searching" which goes on for over 24 hours before I give up and shut down.

I have tried the Windows Update Readiness Tool, SFCFix and a number of Microsoft Update Diagnostic and Standalone Installer downloads with no results...

Any help would be appreciated.

CBS files to follow shortly as too large to upload.

Just tried installing kb3172605 (after manually shutting down wuauserv through task manager) and have had apparent success! Windows found 42 updates after only 15mins - first time Windows Update has completed in days. Also seems to have gotten rid of a "Win 10 has been reserved msg" that has been there for months.
I'm going to install the new updates and restart now....

Windows Update installed over 50 updates and seems to be working properly again, kb3172605 did the trick for me (would only install after manually shutting down wuauserv through task manager).
Windows update troubleshooter still reports one error which cannot be repaired, however this does not appear to be causing any issues.

PS Thanks Willy2, that link got me on the right track.
