My Toshiba laptop computer was probably infected with DNS changer malware and/or other spyware that led to identity theft for me. I tried to use all the different kinds of antimalware software (Rkill64, ESET, Roguekiller, TDSSKiller, Trendmicro, Microsoft Securites Essentials, Webroot, etc., just about all the software I can find from bleepingcomputer.com, dcwg.org or the ones recommended by PC magazine articles) to get rid of the malware, and used software from reimageplus.com and tweaking.com to reinstall system files and fix the damages left behind by the malware, but I am not sure if everything is fixed, because I am still having problem installing these two Windows Update files (kb/3078601 & kb/3109094), one of which is apparently necessary to prevent malware from obtaining elevated privilege. When I run System File Check using Tweakin.com Windows Repair, it also indicates that some system files were still corrupted and could not be fixed. This is after running Reimage PC Repair and reinstalling about 145 Windows Security Updates.
I have read that a third Windows update (kb/2970228) contains nagware for Windows 10, so I have hidden that update and configured my firewall in ESET Smart Security to block connections from MS software that contain "GWX," which is supposed to be just the nagware for "Get Windows 10." I think I also just deleted the file GWX from the computer.
Did that cause the problems I am experiencing now? Do I have to allow the nagware to install in order to install other needed security updates?
I don't have my original Windows 7 Ultimate installation discs with me, as I am on a business trip in India and don't want to take the computer to a local repair shop with dubious reputation for a clean system reinstallation or allow a dubious, cold-calling "tech support" service to work on my computer remotely, as I suspect they were the ones who had introduced the malware in the first place.
I ran SFCFix once and didn't find any corrupted system files. Based on what I read in another post on Sysnative.com, I ran Windows6.1-KB947821-v34-x64.msu (Windows update Hot Fixes) and then ran SFCFix again, and this time it displayed a ton of corrupted files, not all of which were fixable by SFCFix. Results are attached as a separate .txt file, as the file is too large to paste here. CBS log file to follow as well. I may try to run the Reimage software again tonight, to see if it can replace the corrupt files listed by SFCFix. But I suspect that at best it will just return the computer to the same state of not being able to install the two critical security updates, kb/3078601 & kb/3109094. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
