Hello to everyone on this forum. 1st time user here, found my way here via SFCFix.

Problem: Cannot install Service Pack 1 on Windows 7.
SFC /SCANNOW shows file corruption that cannot be repaired. System Readyness Tool did not fix the error. Drive has been ChkDsked and a few corruptions fixed. Western Digital tools confirm the drive is Good.

So the issue is that I cannot get an old ISO file for Windows 7. Using the install disk tool and SFCFix will not work because I only have access to Windows 7 Home Edition SP1 ISO file.

Any help to fix this update or corrupt file is appreciated. Before resorting to a system restore, I'd like to try and fix this first.

Code:
SFCFix version 42.32768.0.0 by niemiro.Start time: 2016-04-07 09:57:43.169
Microsoft Windows 7 - amd64
Not using a script file.

No luck with getting Windows 7 SP1 on though. I reran the SUTR again, nothing popped up, but installing SP1 gave the following result;
Code:
Windows 7 Service Pack 1 for x64-based Systems (KB976932)

Installation date: ?11/?04/?2016 10:40

Installation status: Failed

Error details: Code 80070490

Update type: Important

Windows 7 Service Pack 1 is a recommended collection of updates and improvements to Windows that are combined into a single installable update. The service pack can help make your computer safer and more reliable. A typical installation will take about 30 minutes to complete, and you will have to restart your computer about halfway through the process.

Does it still think it's corrupt?

If you go in your Windows Updates control panel and click on Check for updates, are there any that comes up other than the SP1?

Hello again. thought I replied to this. Only "Windows 7 Service Pack 1 for X64 (KB976932)" is displayed.
Under optional, only "Update for Windows 7 (KB976422)" and this too fails.
The Error code for SP1 is 80070490.
Today I ran WSUS Offline with the SP1 patch, but since it won't succeed it just entered an endless loop of attempts. I've prewarned the Laptop owner it could be Factory Restore time!

Does that laptop have an OEM or retail version of Windows 7?

Does that laptop have an OEM or retail version of Windows 7?
Urgh, just OEM; and the code is completly rubbed off!
The exact error message is
"Installation Was Not Successful. Elements not found. Error: ERROR_NOT_FOUND(0x80070490)
I can't do an in place upgrade without the disc. Is Factory Reset looking like easiest / best option?

Right now, a Factory Reset is what I would call a fastest solution. For me, it would be the easiest/best. Looks like you have a time constraint on that issue, so that's what I would do (since it's a customer's computer).

It's a friends PC, but sometimes a fresh start is both quicker, and ensures there are no problems. We've already taken a backup so pretty much nearly there. I appreciate the time you've spend helping me with that, thank you and take care.

No problem EvylRat, you're welcome. Sorry that I couldn't assist you more than that!
