Hello,

I have had several strange update failures and have tried lots of different fixes, all of which have failed.

My first install failure was with the 2019-04 quanlity rollup, after some digging this was failing because the Feb and Mar monthlies had also failed.

I have had several issues with updates in the past and have had to restore from a restore point some time ago.

I have followed the Windows Update Posting Instructions and my results are below:

Ran SFC /scannow - No errors found

Installed SURT, no issues

Ran SFCFix - SURT Corruption couldn't be repaired, log:

Code:
SFCFix version 3.0.1.0 by niemiro.
Start time: 2019-04-24 16:58:07.450

My CBS folder is huge so I have shared it on Dropbox, link below:

Am happy to clear the log and run through steps again if this CBS log is too big.

Appreciate any help anyone can give.

Hi welcome to Sysnative,

One of the logs show a big number of files missing/corrupted! I'm preparing a fix for you and will post as soon as possible...

Hi,

It was faster than I expected. Lets start...

SFCFix Script

!!! WARNING !!! The following fix is only relevant for this system and no other, applying this fix on another computer will not work and most likely will cause problems...
  • Download SFCFix.exe (by Niemiro) and save it to the Desktop
  • Download the file SFCFIX.ZIP, attached below, and save this to your Desktop
  • On your Desktop, make sure you have the two files:
    myjIXnC.png
    SFCFix.exe and
    sfpcJCen14An3ndjNGCI7mByhjHJud.png
    SFCFIX.zip
  • Drag the file SFCFIX.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it
  • The SFCFix tool will process the script
  • Upon completion, a log file SFCFix.txt should be created on your Desktop
  • Open the SFCFix.txt log and copy & paste the contents to your post

Hi,

Thanks for the log.

System Update Readiness Tool (SUR)
  • Download the System Update Readiness Tool (x64) and save it to some place, its a big download and eventually we need to run it several times, please keep the file
  • Run the tool. Its like an Update but it can take a long time to do the work. You will get an Installation Complete screen when it's done running
  • Please attach to your post the log from the following location: C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log
    Note:
If the file is too big please Zip it and upload the ZIP file to a service like Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive or upload to SendSpace and just provide the link for the file here.

Ok, we did some progress...

Lets do this before trying the update again...

Install Update using Dism
  1. Please download KB4471318 http://download.windowsupdate.com/c..._b4c39ec96309b1e457d76f2294664b9068044d38.msu save the file to c:\windows\temp
  2. change the name of the update file to a smaller name windows6.1-KB4471318-x64.msu
(keep the extension .msu in the end of the file name in case its visible if not ignore that)
  3. open the Command Prompt as Administrator (Tutorial)
  4. type or Copy & Paste the following commands line by line:

    cd /d c:\windows\temp
    expand windows6.1-KB4471318-x64.msu -f:* C:\windows\temp
    DISM.exe /Online /Add-Package /PackagePath:C:\windows\temp\windows6.1-KB4471318-x64.cab

  5. You should receive the message:
    The operation completed successfully.
Restart Windows to complete this operation.
Do you want to restart the computer now (Y/N)?
  6. Make sure to allow the computer to restart if prompted.

If you receive any other message:
  7. Right-click on the Command Prompt window and click Select All, this will invert all of the colours by selecting the text, now press enter. All of this text is now copied.
  8. Paste (Ctrl+V) it into your next post please.

Ok, try to install the 2019-04 quanlity rollup if it fails please collect the new CBS.log

I had hidden the March and April roll up to install the Feb one, shall I just go straight to the April one?

The April roll-up installed successfully, thank you!

Am I now safe to try installing other updates? (Office, SQL Server etc)?

You can, but first unhide the March and April roll up and make Windows search for updates to see if they disappear if not try to install them.

They're not visible after installing the April roll-up (and not in 'restore hidden updates').

I'll continue with updating, thank you again for all your help!

(y)

I was expecting something like that because the roll-ups are cumulative.

Let me know if you get problems with the other updates.
