Hello,

I'm Jonathan21.
I'm currently a Windows Update Trainee who is completing the last part of their training and therefore my posts will be need to be approved by an experienced analyst, because of this, there may be delay between my posts. I appreciate your patience. If you have any questions or problems with the process, please please let me know.

Step 1:

Retrieve Components Hive
1. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Config and locate the COMPONENTS file.
2. Please copy this file to your desktop.
Note: If you receive an error that this file is in-use, simply reboot your computer and try again.
3. Right-click on this file on your desktop and select Send To...Compressed (zipped) folder. This will create a file named COMPONENTS.ZIP on your desktop.
4. The file will likely be too large to upload here so please upload to a file sharing service. Examples of services to upload to are Dropbox or OneDrive or WeTransfer and then just provide the link in your reply.

Regards,

Good morning,

Unfortunately, it seems that the Components subkey from your COMPONENTS hive has been deleted for some reason and this doesn't appear to be realistically recoverable (around 50K keys are missing). The only two options are to attempt to restore an older COMPONENTS hive from a backup, although, this can cause additional problems in itself; or alternatively, you will need to a complete clean install.

Regards,

Restored a VM backup of september 2022, and it completed the update without problems
I'll try to find a more recent version and test it again

The Version with the components of september 2022 is the only one. that runs the update without problemen (next en finish)
That version is missing a lot of application update so I tried to repair the latest version.

I copied the components from the backup to the current versionand rebooted.
and ran the following commandlines

Code:
C:\Windows\system32>sfc /scannow

Beginning system scan. This process will take some time.

Beginning verification phase of system scan.
Verification 100% complete.

Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.
