[SOLVED] Windows 2008 R2 - KB4534310 - Error 8024200D

Hello,

It looks like the security roll ups for a Windows 2008 R2 box seem to be failing. Specifically KB4534310 is failing with error code 8024200D, I've also tried manually running the MSU for KB4534310 but it fails.

Before creating this post as per your guidelines I have tried:
1) Manually running the MSU
2) sfc /scannow - did not find any integrity violations
3) Ran SURT
4) Ran Niemiro's SFCFix - did not find any corruption

Attached is a link to a zip of the CBS log folder, any help resolving this error would be appreciated.

Let's try resetting the Windows Update Components. Note that this will clear the update installation history, and the first search for updates may take a very long time.

Run Windows Repairs
  1. Download Windows Repair (All-in-One) Portable to your desktop.
  2. Once the file is downloaded, right-click on the file on your desktop and choose Extract All...

  3. Keep the defaults and click the Extract button.
  4. A folder named tweaking.com_windows_repair_aio will be extracted to the desktop. Once the extraction is complete the folder will open.
  5. Inside this folder, there is a folder named Tweaking.com - Windows Repair. Open this folder as well.

  6. Double-click on Repair_Windows.exe to open. Note: Please make sure all of your programs are closed and anything you were working on is saved as we will be rebooting.
  7. When the program opens, click the Reboot to Safe Mode button at the bottom of the screen. Answer Yes to allow.
  8. Once rebooted into Safe Mode, open the program again. When the program opens, click the Repairs tab and click the Open Repairs button.
  9. A backup of your registry will be made. After a few moments you will have many options from which you can choose.
  10. Please click the Unselect All button and then click to enable only the following ones:

  11. Ensure the Restart check box is selected and click the Start Repairs button in the lower right of the screen. This may take some time to run so be patient.

  12. Once the fixes are complete you will be prompted to restart your machine. Answer Yes.
 
Hello and thanks for the reply!

I had previously tried to clear the windows updates by stopping the services and clearing out the SoftwareDistribution folder but i assume this means there were likely registry keys that were missed?
I'll give this a go but unfortunately the link provided doesn't seem to work.. i was however able to pull the URL to MajorGeeks from it. To confirm i should be getting "Downloading Tweaking.com - Windows Repair Portable 4.7.2" right?

Thanks again for your time. I'll give this a try later today/tonight.

Thanks for the help.

I managed to reset the windows update components, check for updates, and then tried to apply them but its still failing on KB4534310 with the 8024200D error.

Install Update with DISM

  1. Download the update MSU here:
  2. Copy the MSU file to a convenient location (such as C:\temp).
  3. Click on the Start
    Start%20Orb.jpg
    button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
  4. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
  5. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each

    cd C:\temp

    replace C:\temp with your path if different

    expand {update name}.msu -f:* C:\temp

    replace {update name} with the name of the MSU file downloaded in step 1

    DISM.exe /Online /Add-Package /PackagePath:C:\temp\{update name}.cab

  6. You should receive the message:
    The operation completed successfully.
    Restart Windows to complete this operation.
    Do you want to restart the computer now (Y/N)?
  7. Make sure to allow the computer to restart if prompted.

    If you receive any other message:
  8. Right-click on the Command Prompt window and click Select All, this will invert all of the colours by selecting the text, now press enter. All of this text is now copied.
  9. Paste (Ctrl+V) it into your next post.
  10. Zip and attach C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log
