When installing Windows Update 24H2 on my Surface Laptop Studio, halfway the process is cancelled (actually the first round of updates are up to 100%, after a reboot the next updates stop at 9% and a reboot takes place and all changes are undone before entering Windows again)
After startup Windows Updates shows: "We can't install this update, please try again (0x80070002)"
When I log off Insider, Windows tries to install 23H2 (restore version) which also gives me error 0x800700002

I was Insider Beta use and a few months ago I changed it to "Release Preview"
Sometime later (months) I got this error with 24H2
I then changed insider to "Do't receive preview builds" and then
"log out this device when the next version of Windows is released" (everything is translated from dutch)
Windows update then tried to install 23H2 (repair version)
This also resulted in the same behavior so installing failing with same error (0x800700002).
I then switched back to Release Preview after Windows tries to install 24H2 again, same error.

I tried all of the following
Run the Windows Update Troubleshooter
Check and Remove Corrupted System Files: sfc /scannow.
Reset Windows Update Components:
net stop wuauserv
net stop cryptSvc
net stop bits
net stop appidsvc
net stop msiserver
ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old
ren C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 Catroot2.old
net start wuauserv
net start cryptSvc
net start bits
net start appidsvc
net start msiserver
I have no third party antivirus as far as I am aware
Check System Date and Time: correct
Run DISM Tool: dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth.
In msconfig disabled all non Microsoft services (except for Windows Subsystem for Android which was not running because disabled in next step).
Disabled all Startup Programs
chkdsk C: /f without errors
update manually from the following website: Microsoft Update Catalog (when trying to install the 24H2 for win x64 i got a message "this update is not for your system)

So as you can dee, tried a lot with no success.
As far as I know there are no seperate bios updates for the Surface Laptop Studio
Can anyone help?

Hi and welcome to Sysnative,

Some notes about using Insider Preview builds:
  • Insider builds of Windows are preview (beta) releases which may contain bugs.
  • If you experience problems with such builds, please use the Microsoft Feedback HUB to report them to Microsoft.
  • To resolve issues you can perform an in-place-upgrade using the latest ISO or an ISO which you can download from UUPdump.
  • Please also note that updates for Insider Builds are not available in the Windows Update catalog as stand-alone updates (MSU-packages).
  • Note of Microsoft: "When choosing a channel, you should keep in mind how stable you need your device to be, what level of issues you can handle on your device, how early in development you'd like to see features and changes, and whether or not you need Microsoft support."
  • Another important point is that issues with Insider Builds can be more complex or even completely unknown than regular problems with stable versions of Windows.
  • Some tools developed by Sysnative are not (fully) compatible with Insider Builds,

You're welcome. Let me know if you are able to perform an in-place-upgrade using the ISO from UUPdump. This is usually the best option to resolve issues with insider preview builds.

Hi,

You'll need to run the file uup_download_windows.bat as administrator, this script will build the ISO file. When completed you can mount the ISO and perform the in-place-upgrade.

just this minute there was an update for 23H2 which did install
Maybe the error is fixed in this update so i am now trying 24H2 again
If it fails again i will do the in place update

Got a warning from windows but continued anyway
i thing something went wrong, the script was downloading something but very short and the UUPs folder created is empty

ran it again and now its doing more
first lines were

Yes, please be patient. You will see an message when the process is completed and you can close this window.

Bummer...
At least it seams a driver issue

Translated "Installation failed in fase SAFE_OS with an INSTALL_DRIVERS process"
