Hello everyone,

I have a reboot issue on Windows 11 pro. I have old PC from 2009 (MB Gigabite P35-DS3, Inte core 2 quad q9650 3,6ghz, 8GB Kingston DDR2, Samsung SSD 860EVO 500GB)

When my system goes to reboot it ends up on a black screen with a humming fan.
If I want to restart I still have to press the reset button. Then the Bios starts booting.

Shutting down windows 11 works normally.
Restart in windows 7 on the same HW works normally (there is no issue with HW).

I heard that win11 does not support bios anymore just only UEFI. Maybe is problem with drivers.
My SSD is set to rapid technology which uses DRAM as cache.

Does anyone have the same issue and know the solution?

Thanks

Derek

It certainly doesn't help that you're running Windows 11 on incompatible hardware, doubt you'll find much of a solution other than using anything other than Windows 11.

Kudos for still running such an old system. Core two quad CPUs are already outdated for a long time (well you said, that your hardware is 14 years old, this are eons in IT).
Microsoft does not support Processors older than Generation 8 of Intel Core i Processors with Windows 11. (Maybe some selected models of Generation 7.) There are more requirements (i.e. UEFI boot or TPM 2.0) which are definitively not part of your equipment.
Windows 11 System Requirements - Microsoft Support

If possible I recommend to go back to Windows 10, run it as long as it is supported and consider to get a newer machine. (Even core i processors of 8th generation are old nowadays - we are currently at gen 14 - and can be gotten rather cheap.)

Best greetings from Germany
Olaf

well, so just only way is still to press the restart button when the system is on the black screen,

thank you for all the responses
