I'm trying to upgrade Windows 11 21H2 to 22H2 but it keeps failing. I've tried doing it through Windows Update, Windows 11 Installation Assistant and trying an inplace upgrade using a Win 11 22H2 USB. All methods fail.
0x80070002 - 0x2000D
The installation failed in the SAFE_OS phase with an error during MIGRATE_DATA operation
Is the error I got with the USB inplace upgrade.
sfc /scannow says it found corrupt files but unable to fix some of them.
dism restorehealth says encountered corruption in the compressed file's resource table. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi I'm Gary R,

I'm a Security Analyst, and a Windows Update Trainee, and I'd like to help you with your problems.

As a trainee there may be times when my instructions must first be checked by a qualified update expert, before I post them. This will by necessity introduce some delay when/if that occurs, so please be patient.

Please can you do the following ...

  • Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Config and locate the COMPONENTS file.
  • Please copy this file to your desktop.
  • Note: If you receive an error that this file is in-use, simply reboot your computer and try again.
  • Right-click on this file on your desktop and select Send To...Compressed (zipped) folder. This will create a file named COMPONENTS.ZIP on your desktop.
  • The file will likely be too large to upload here, if so please upload to a file sharing service.
  • Examples of services to upload to are WeTransfer and TransferKit and SendFileOnline

Please post me the link to the file

Thanks. Back ASAP.

WARNING! The following fix is specific to the user's system in this thread only. No one else should follow these instructions, as it could damage your system.

  • Download SFCFix.exe and save it to your desktop.
  • Download the attachment SFCFix.zip and also save it on your desktop.
  • Save any work you have open, and close all programs.
  • Drag the SFCFix.zip file over the SFCFix.exe executable and release it.

  • SFCFix will launch, let it complete.
  • Once done, a file will appear on your desktop, called SFCFix.txt
  • Open the file, then copy and paste its content in your next reply.

Next ...

  • Click Search button and type Command Prompt
  • From the results, right click on the Command Prompt icon, and select Run as administrator
  • A Command Window will open.
  • Copy paste the command below into it, then press Enter
  • Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
  • Once DISM has finished running ...

If it fails to complete, please post me your latest CBS.log

If it completes ...

  • Restart the computer.
  • Run the command SFC /SCANNOW in an elevated command prompt and wait for it to finish.

If SFC completed successfully, try updating your computer, and if successful please let me know.

If SFC does not complete, or you are still unable to update, post me your latest CBS.log
