Hello,

Since a time ago, I cannot install any update on my computer. All updates are downloaded successfully but when Windows try to install them, something go wrong and the updates are not installed. I've seen three or four different errors, the most common one is 0x80070003. Also, I am unable to shut down the PC, when I click on "Shut down" button (also when I shut down the PC from the console), it only logs out the user and shows the login screen instead of shutting down the machine. I also cannot suspend or hibernate the PC, despite I can restart it.

These are the steps I'm taking, with no success:

1. SFC

I tried to execute SFC /scannow, the scan stops at 60% and the console prompts a message saying something like "Windows Resource Protection couldn't execute the desired action".

2. SFCFix

When executing SFCFix, the program starts crashes after it starts reading CBS.log.

3. DISM

In DISM, I tried the following command: Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth. DISM gets stucked at 80.2% for a while and then prompts a message saying the following:
Code:
Error: 87

An error occurred while processing the command.
Ensure that the command-line arguments are valid. For more information, review the log file.

The DISM log file can be found at C:\windows\Logs\DISM\dism.log

I have also tried to run DISM by specifying a source with the option /source and an install.wim file, along with /limitaccess option, and also a side-by-side Windows installation from another drive, both without success.

I have attached the following files:
- CBS folder from %windir%\Logs
- DISM folder from %windir%\Logs
- SFCFix Log
- Screenshot of SFC error on console
- Screenshot of SFCFix before crashing.

Other info that may be interesting for you:

Windows Specs:
Edition: Windows 10 Home
Platform: 64 bits
Version: 1709
OS Version: 16299.248

Let me know if you need any file more. Many thanks!

Hello and welcome!

Due to the high number of corruptions, I would highly recommend that you start by testing your HDD for errors:

GSmartControl
Follow the instructions below to check your SMART status with GSmartControl:

  • Download the portable version of GSmartControl and save it on your Desktop;
  • Extract the zip file to your Desktop. Open the folder gsmartcontrol-1.1.3-win64 which should be located on your Desktop and double-click gsmartcontrol.exe to launch the program.
  • Identify your drive in the list (if recognized by the tool), and hover your mouse over it.
  • You should see something called: SMART status. It will either read: Enabled, in which case you should do the following:
  • Double-click on it to bring up its window (usually you'll find your drive by its size or its brand name);
  • Go to the Self-Tests tab, then select Extended Self-test in the Test type drop-down list and click on Execute (this test can take a few hours to complete);
  • Once the test is over, the results will be displayed at the bottom of the window. Please copy and paste these results in your next reply or take a screenshot;
  • Also, go in the Attributes tab and if you have any entries highlighted in red or pink, take a screenshot of the GSmartControl window and attach it in your next reply;
  • Please note: If the SMART Status reads: Unsupported, stop and let me know.
