Hello,

I need a little bit of help upgrading my Windows 7 Professional 64bits to Windows 10 Pro using Windows Update.

First I tried to upgrade with Windows Update, it downloads the files and starts installing. When install is on 83%~ it restarts the system on Windows 7 again and Windows Update gives a 80004005 error.

I've also tried to download the ISO, burn DVD and install Windows 10 from it. Mostly the same: on 83%~ installation fails with a "Something happened" message.

Can you help please? I attach SFCFix.txt and the CBS.zip file is at

https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B7ACgjSs7HQXQ0k3YmNkQ0Y2SUE/view?usp=sharing

Thank you.

Hi and welcome to Sysnative. These are always interesting to resolve. We'll do our best.

1. Can you tell me the Make/Model of your computer?
2. Do you happen to have your Windows 7 Professional with 64bit DVD?
3. Did Windows 7 come pre-installed on your machine (i.e. OEM) or did you buy a retail copy of this?
4. Lastly, please run the following Windows 8.1 Upgrade Assistant. I understand that you are upgrading to Windows 10 but would like to know what the results are of running the 8.1 assistant.

Thank you.

Thank you for the quick response.

1. Can you tell me the Make/Model of your computer?

It's a desktop computer. Intel Core i7 920 at 2.67GHz; 9.00 GB of RAM; 256Gb SSD (where the os runs); NVIDIA GeForce GTX 260 GPU.

2. Do you happen to have your Windows 7 Professional with 64bit DVD?

Yes I do.

3. Did Windows 7 come pre-installed on your machine (i.e. OEM) or did you buy a retail copy of this?

Retail copy.

4. Lastly, please run the following Windows 8.1 Upgrade Assistant. I understand that you are upgrading to Windows 10 but would like to know what the results are of running the 8.1 assistant.

I just run the Windows 8.1 upgrade assistant and these are the results of the compatibility test:

Today I noticed a new update called "Windows 10 pro versiĆ³n 1511, 10586" instead of "Windows 10 Pro", I think it's the new version realeased on November. I will try to install this and see what happens.

Thanks.

I read something about Network filters, don't know if it helps.

3. When the program opens it will retrieve some information regarding your system.
4. Once it's done, select the File menu and choose Publish snapshot. Answer Yes to the confirmation message.
5. On the next screen that comes up, choose the Copy to Clipboard button and paste this link in your next reply.

OK, please do the following.

1. Disconnect any non-essential things from your computer. For example if you have multiple monitors, make sure only one is connected. If you have any external USB devices connected, disconnect those, etc. Anything non-essential to operate your machine should be disconnected.

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/929135

3. Download the Media Creation Tool and save to your desktop. Then run this tool and attempt the upgrade.

Let me know how it goes. Thanks.

Hello,

uninstalling SP1 didn't work. I also did an upgrade install from Windows 7 DVD, then I tried to upgrade to Windows 10 from there with the exact same result.

The only alternative that I have is to do a fresh install, I'm afraid, and I think it doesn't worth the effort of installing all the programs again.

If you came up with some idea without having to do a fresh install I will give it a try.

Thank you very much for your support.

Regards,

Daniel.

Bummer. The only other thing I can suggest and it's completely up to you is that we can do a physical to virtual conversion of your machine. Then you can upload the VM to me, I can restore into a virtual envrionment and try to figure out what the issue is. If I'm successful I can simply provide you step by step instructions of what to do to upgrade. If it's something you are interested in let me know and I'll provide instructions.
