Hi,

I'm trying to update Wndows10 64bit_build 1903 to the latest 1909 but updates failed.
I receive 0x800703f1 error code.

I tried every troubleshooting utility provided by microsoft, then sfc /scannow and DISM commands but they all failed.
Here's what the SFCFix log file reports:

Code:

Microsoft Windows 10 Build 18362 - amd64
Not using a script file.

WARNING: Components hive failed load test and may be corrupt.

WARNING: Components hive failed final reload test with error code ERROR_BADDB and may be corrupt.

SUMMARY: No corruptions were detected.
AutoAnalysis:: directive completed successfully.

Successfully processed all directives.
SFCFix version 3.0.2.1 by niemiro has completed.
Currently storing 0 datablocks.

I'd like to restore windows to a clean functionality state if it's possible.

Thank you very much for your help.

Hi!

Let's check if that's possible:

Retrieve Components Hive
1. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Config and locate the COMPONENTS file.
2. Please copy this file to your desktop.
Note: If you receive an error that this file is in-use, simply reboot your computer and try again.
3. Right-click on this file on your desktop and select Send To...Compressed (zipped) folder. This will create a file named COMPONENTS.ZIP on your desktop.
4. The file will likely be too large to upload here so please upload to a file sharing service. Examples of services to upload to are Dropbox or OneDrive or SendSpace and then just provide the link in your reply.

Hi!

Step 1 - Replace Components Hive Manually

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Download COMPONENTS.ZIP and save to your desktop.
  2. Right-click on it and select Extract all.... Make sure the "Show extracted files when complete" is checked and click Extract.
  3. Now we have the COMPONENTS file that we will be using to replace your current one.
  4. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\config
  5. Right-click on the current COMPONENTS file and select rename. Rename it to COMPONENTS.bad.
Note: If you get an error that the file is in use, reboot your computer and then try again.
  6. Take the file from the Components folder on your desktop and paste it into C:\Windows\System32\config

hi,

I replaced the components file with the one you provided.

Windows Update seems to start and installing but reaching 100% of the installation process it returns me an error (0x800f0988), and no updates occurs.
System file checker stops at 1% and returns "unable to fix some of the corrupted files".
here's the link to the CBS folder with the log

CBS.zip

waiting for instructions

thanks

Hi!

Go straight for 1909:

  1. Download the Media Creation Tool and save this to your desktop. Go ahead and run this as well. Note: Click the Download tool now button when you get to this link.
  2. Accept the License Agreement
  3. Download the ISO file to your desktop.
  4. Double-click on the ISO and then run the setup to try and upgrade your machine.

We want to get the ISO so that you don't have to keep downloading which can take hours.

it worked.

Windows 10 now updated to 1909 latest version, sfc working properly and reporting no problems.

thank you very much for the perfect solution.

have a nice day
