I am literally at my wits end with WU. This is my last ditch attempt to save my build before I have to do a full reinstall. I am currently on 1703 Home and can't seem to get past it despite Windows trying and failing to a bsd almost daily. I will save my rant on that for later. I have tried all of the usual advanced stuff: Update repair, In place upgrade from iso, clean boot, DISM repairs, display driver uninstall, airplane mode, wifi, hard wire etc. If it's on a forum, I've tried it. I've seen that you've helped other in similar predicaments and I'm hopeful I could be the next lucky contestant. Attached are a Windows Update Log from earlier this month and a current CBS log. Please let me know if you need newer files of if I can provide anything to help. I very much appreciate anything you can do to assist.

Your system is experiencing crashes due to Intel Extreme Tuning Utility being used. Please return everything to stock value, uninstall the utility and monitor for crashes.

I thought that may have something to do with it but discounted it because I never used it and I figured everyone with an Acer Predator would be having the same issue. I thought I had tested WU with it removed but perhaps not. Question though, is removing it enough or do I need to see if it's made settings changes that stick around? I ask because I've tried WU with a clean boot i.e. no Intel Tuning running and it still failed. Thanks for going through all this.

I suspect this will have little to no impact on your WU issue, but it may help with the BSODs you've been experiencing.

Please do the following:

1. Download the Media Creation Tool and save this to your desktop. Go ahead and run this as well. Note: Click the Download tool now button when you get to this link.
2. Accept the License Agreement
3. Download the ISO file to your desktop.
4. Double-click on the ISO and then run the setup to try and upgrade your machine.

We want to get the ISO so that you don't have to keep downloading which can take hours.

If the installation fails, zip and attach C:\$Windows.~bt\Sources\Panther\SetupAct.log and SetupErr.log.

You're saying to try this after I remove the Intel tuning program, yes? I ask because I've tried doing it from the ISO with the same results. I've tried it off a thumb drive as well as off the HD.

Will do. It appears simply doing an uninstall doesn't quite cut it as the services and files remain afterward. I think I need to take this to another level. My guess is when i attempted it last time it wasn't completely gone before I ran WU. Do you have a preferred uninstaller you'd recommend? I've tried Revo on another machine but I think it did more harm than good. I have CC Cleaner which will remove the reg settings but I have to get the goofy thing off the machine first.

Here's what I found online:

Old thread but I came across this same service on my machine and am posting a solution for anyone else that stumbles across this thread searching for instructions as I have been unable to locate a straight answer on removing this Intel tuning service from windows 10.

You have to use the installutil.exe utility that ships with the Microsoft .Net Framework. The utility has to be ran from a command prompt with administrative rights. And since the .Net framework folder is not included in the path environment variable, you'll need to navigate to the folder that contains the executable manually.

Two things yo need, the path to the installutil.exe executable and the location and name of the Intel tuning service executable you want removed.

The installutil.exe file can be found at:

C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\InstallUtil.exe

The tuning service I removed was installed at:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Intel\Intel(R) Extreme Tuning Utility\XtuService.exe

Using those pieces of information, open a command prompt as an admin and enter (your information for the location of the extreme tuning service may be different, I'm showing mine here as an example):

C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\InstallUtil.exe /u C:\Program Files (x86)\Intel\Intel(R) Extreme Tuning Utility\XtuService.exe

Hit enter and when it is complete, reboot and the service should be gone. You can also safely delete the C:\Program Files (x86)\Intel\Intel(R) Extreme Tuning Utility folder and its contents.

It worked, I'm on 1803. You have no idea how happy I am as this has been going on for almost a year now. I had tried uninstalling the Intel tuner before but I guess it din't fully disappear. I did more research and found the services and files still in place so bad on Intel for that. I had to command line uninstall the service with the .NET uninstaller to finally get it to go. I happily donated to your cause. I'm not religious but you are truly doing God's work here! Again, THANK YOU!!!!

BTW, this is the command I used to get rid of it from an elevated com prompt:

C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\InstallUtil.exe /u "C:\Program Files (x86)\Intel\Intel(R) Extreme Tuning Utility\XtuService.exe"

I also ran the traditional Programs/Uninstall utility but I guess that just removed the Intel Control panel.

I am a very advanced user and this has been a rock in my shoe for as long as I can recall.
