Hi
Multiple attempts to update Windows 7 Pro to Windows 10 produce the same error code, c0000005. I have run sfcfix and attach the text file and a copy of the cbs.log file. I hope this is sufficient for your purposes.

Thanks very much for your interest in my problem . I downloaded the Media Creation Tool and selected the upgrade option. The PC was busy for some time but then slowed down to a crawl with only occasional hard drive activity. I tried it twice and the second time I left it running for over 16 hours. There was no error message but also no sign of it upgrading. There was, however, a message box from Microsoft suggesting I should upgrade to Windows10!

Do you know the speed of your internet connection and what type (e.g. 1.5Mbit DSL)?

If you have a spare 8GB+ flash drive, try using the Media Creation tool to create installation media using the USB flash drive.
Once the creation process is complete, try running setup from the USB flash drive.

I created the installation media on a flash drive and tried to upgrade the program twice. I got to the "Getting ready to install" screen each time but after a few minutes the windows screen switched off and nothing further happened.

I'd like to try turning off any third party software and attempt the installation again.

Clean Boot

  1. Click the Start button, then type msconfig in the search box.
  2. Click msconfig in the results list.

  3. On the General tab, click the Selective startup option, and then click to clear the Load startup items check box.

  4. On the Services tab of the System Configuration dialog box, click to select the Hide all Microsoft services check box, and then tap or click Disable all.

Once this is completed, restart your computer and try running Windows 10 setup again.

Sorry for the delay in replying I had to finalise some accounts for the year end and did not want risk losing the information. I carried out the msconfig instructions this morning and ended up with same result, error code c0000005. I also tried disconnecting all drives except the c: drive same result. If, like me, you are getting fed up with this I am happy to do a clean install. Thanks for your patience so far.

If you would like to do a clean install of Windows 10 that would be fine.

The USB installation media you have created is bootable and should accept your Windows 7 Professional product key for activation.

Windows 10 is now installed. The only problem was that my SSD had to be converted to GPT from MBR. (Could this have been the cause of the errors?) Many thanks for your patient assistance.

That would be another error code during the installation; I think some variation of C1900101 regarding updating the system reserved partition (if I recall correctly).

In any case, great job with the installation! I'm glad it's working for you :thumbsup2:
