Hi, the update seems to be successful after the fix but it's restarted with error code "Critical_Process_Died", I managed to fallback the system to a recent restore point and the update process got stuck in the following status even I've tried to restart the system a couple times.

Please restart the system, if the update fails attach a new copy of the CBS logs.

I've run the fix in post #6 and restarted the system but it's stuck in the screenshot I just posted.

Hmm, please post the lastes CBS logs to look at.

Upload a copy of the CBS folder
  • Open Windows Explorer and browse to the C:\Windows\Logs folder.
  • Right-click on the CBS folder and choose Send to > Compressed (zipped) folder.
  • Now the message will appear, "Windows cannot create the Compressed (zipped) Folder here. Do you want it to be placed on the desktop instead?"
  • Click on the Yes button here.

  • Attach the file CBS.zip to your next reply.

The CBS logs does not reveal any useful information, so please run the following DISM command first.

Run the following DISM command and post the result. If it fails attach a new copy of the CBS log.
Code:
DISM /online /cleanup-image /RestoreHealth

The command was completed successfully, here is the latest CBS log after restarting the system.

Open an elevated command prompt and run the following command. Attach Dirlist.txt to your next post.
Code:
dir /s /a %systemroot%\WinSxS\amd64_microsoft-windows-d..ing-management-core_31bf3856ad364e35_10.0.19041.746_none_092d70d1898e5ff9 > "%userprofile%\Desktop\Dirlist.txt"

I tried to download the latest update file from Microsoft Update Catalog and install it manually. The result seems to be positive as the Windows build number had been updated as 10.0.19044.3570, however, the Windows update window is still stuck in "restart required" screenshot posted above.

And the dirlist is attached for your reference.

The Windows update window is back to normal after I've cleaned up the folder %systemroot%\SoftwareDistribution, please consider this problem as solved and thanks for providing the fix.
