I've got a new and interesting issue. The windows 10 store happened to have an update available for itself. When I hit go on that, it tries to install but crashes the store. The store then no longer will open at all. I did a system restore and then filmed the defect because it's easier than trying to explain it.

Here's a link to two videos:

Microsoft services

First video is of the crash. Second video is after reboot to show the condition remains the same.

I tried messing with the powershell a little to uninstall and reinstall the store, but I only made matters worse and had to do a system restore.

Anyone have any suggestions??

It sounds like you've already tried re-registering Windows Store using PowerShell commands. A online tech has a little how-to which includes another thing to try: he suggests that clearing the Store cache might work. To do so, you have to have File Explorer set to show hidden files. Then you can navigate to Users/your username/AppData/Local/Packages/Microsoft.WindowsStore_8wekyb3d8bbwe/Local Cache ... and deleting the subfolders and files in the "Local Cache" folder. Then try the store again. Here's a link to his tip, with screenshots: How To Fix Windows 10 Store Crashing Or Poor Performance Issues | WinCentral

There's also a PowerShell script that forces a reinstall of ALL the Windows 10 "system apps" (the built-in apps). Let me know if you need that one, or you could probably find it via your favorite search engine.

Over on the Insider Hub, it's amazing how many apps are being reported to suddenly spring back to life after a few reboots! Seems like the Store updates have been a little hazardous - I would expect that to improve eventually.

The reinstall of all the apps thing is dangerous. I have found that it can really mess up some apps, giving this error about "merge" something or other. When that happens it seems there's no going back either. It won't let you uninstall OR reinstall the app and the only option is system restore or reinstall windows.

Anyone else have any ideas?

I can understand not wanting to try reinstalling all the apps at once ...

But did you try the other tip: manually deleting the Store "cache"? It has been reported to work for some users.

I deleted everything in the cache folder as instructed, then tried the update. The store app appeared to crash like before, but this time it allowed me to re-open the store. It also appears that the update actually installed as well. I'm calling it fixed.

Thanks for your help.
