Hello,

I am having the same issue as was solved in this thread. As it appears that the thread is specific for the other computer, I need to ask for similar help on my PC.

Here is the link to the one that was solved:

[SOLVED] - Windows 10 - sfc not working, dism error 193, update not working

Here is the message that fits my own issue exactly:
Have an error with Windows Update failing with error 0x800700c1 each time.
sfc /scannow immediately fails with "Windows Resource Protection could not start the repair service"
"Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth" immediately fails with error 193 "%1 is not a valid Win32-application"

sfc and dism neither work in safe mode.
I also tried with an in-place upgrade (not in safe mode), but even that fails.

Next steps?
According to the other thread listed above, a "SFCFix" was needed.
Attached is my CBS log file zipped.

I am quite grateful to have come across this website and see that an issue like mine has already been solved. I very much look forward to your reply. I've done a bit of research on the issue and also aimed to put everything into this thread that was needed. That said, please let me know what else is needed and I will get that to you quickly. Thank you.

Hi and welcome to Sysnative,

Step 1. Download

Warning: This fix was written specifically for this system. Do not run this fix on another system.
  • Save any work you have open, and close all programs.
  • Download the attachment SFCFix.zip and save it to your desktop.
  • Drag the SFCFix.zip file over the SFCFix.exe executable and release it.

  • SFCFix will launch, let it complete.
  • Once done, a file will appear on your desktop, called SFCFix.txt.
  • Post the logfile (SFCFix.txt) as attachment in your next reply.

Step 2. Run the following DISM command and post the result. If it fails attach a new copy of the CBS log.
Code:
DISM /online /cleanup-image /RestoreHealth

Wow! This has fixed the issue. Thank you so much. We had issues going back to 2021 and have not been able to bring the computer to current updates until now. It has been causing some minor stress for a long time and we had no perceived path forward until we found this site. Now, we can install the latest applications and that is so nice to be able to do.

I was sure to provide a donation to express my gratitude to you and all that work at this site to make a community like this possible. I am a first-time post requester, and already a long-term fan.

Thank you, again!
