I used the MS Media Creation Tool to create a bootable installation USB thumb drive, removed all my drives, & connected a single spare SSD. Booting from USB drive, it hangs at the Windows logo as before. Looks like its time to buy a new MB, etc. or switch to another OS. Thanks, -Slammer
