Hello and welcome!

Due to the precise nature of your corruption, you will receive help from a user named Bruce1270. He's one of our senior trainees here who's in his final phase of his studies and needs to gain some real world experience in specific areas of Windows Update. This means that he'll be assisting you, but that I will first need to double check and approve his fixes before he posts them to you. If anything this is a good thing for you because it means that you've got at least two of us watching over your thread, but it will unfortunately add a slight delay between each reply. I hope that you understand and can accept the need for us to train up new members in this way in order to carry on doing what we do here, however, if for any reason you object to this setup, I will happily take on your thread myself.

Thank you very much for your understanding. We'll be with you very shortly.

no problems at all, and yes of course i understand. I'm not in a hurry, you and Bruce can go for it

Hi MetroGru

My name is Bruce1270 and I shall be assisting you.

Please do the following.

Export/Upload CBS folder
  1. On Windows 8 and Windows 10, press the Windows key, type This PC, and press Enter.
On Windows Vista and Windows 7, click the Start button then click Computer.
  2. Double-click on the C: drive, under the Hard Disk Drives category, and then scroll down to, and double click on the Windows folder.
  3. Find and double click on the Logs folder.
  4. Right-click on the CBS folder, and select Copy.
  5. Go back to your Desktop, right-click on it, and select Paste. You should now see a copy of the CBS folder appear on your Desktop called CBS.
  6. Right-click on this new folder, and navigate through Send to, and select Compressed (zipped) folder.
  7. A new file, also called CBS (CBS.zip), but this time with a different icon, will be created on your desktop.
  8. Please upload it to a file sharing service and provide the link to it in your next reply. Examples of services to upload to are Dropbox or OneDrive or SendSpace

i'll mention what i have tried,

administrator cmd i tried sfc /scannow which yesterday told me there were some issues, but today when i ran it again there weren't any

then tried DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth

then i tried restarting windows update components by running these commands

  • Net Stop bits
  • Net Stop wuauserv
  • Net Stop appidsvc
  • Net Stop cryptsvc
  • Ren %systemroot%SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.bak - ( didn't work and i had to delete it manually from C drive )
  • Ren %systemroot%system32catroot2 catroot2.bak - ( didn't work and i had to delete it manually from C drive )
  • Net Start bits
  • Net Start wuauserv
  • Net Start appidsvc
  • Net Start cryptsvc

also checked for Windows Features that framework 3.5 is checked

Hi MetroGru

While we are working on your issue please do not do anything other than instructions I give you, just to make the process easier. :-)

Please do the following.

Retrieve Components Hive
1. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Config and locate the COMPONENTS file.
2. Please copy this file to your desktop.
Note: If you receive an error that this file is in-use, simply reboot your computer and try again.
3. Right-click on this file on your desktop and select Send To...Compressed (zipped) folder. This will create a file named COMPONENTS.ZIP on your desktop.
4. The file will likely be too large to upload here so please upload to a file sharing service. Examples of services to upload to are Dropbox or OneDrive or SendSpace and then just provide the link in your reply.

Hi MetroGru

Please do the following.

Step #1 - FRST Fix

NOTICE:
This script was written specifically for this user, for use on that particular machine. Running this on another machine may cause damage to your operating system
Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop.
Note: You need to run the 64-bit Version so please ensure you download that one.
Download attached file and save it to the Desktop.
Note. It's important that both files, FRST64 and fixlist.txt are in the same location or the fix will not work (in this case...the desktop).
Run FRST64 by Right-Clicking on the file and choosing Run as administrator.
Press the Fix button just once and wait. If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally. After that let the tool complete its run.
When finished FRST64 will generate a log on the Desktop (Fixlog.txt). Please post the contents of it in your reply.

Hi MetroGru

Please attempt to install KB4530684 again and attach CBS log if it fails.

Hello!

My apologies for the delay.

Please do the following until Bruce returns:

Step#1 - Capture Process Monitor Trace
1. Download and run Process Monitor. Leave this running while you perform the next steps.
2. Try updating the system just like you have in the past.
3. Stop Process Monitor as soon as it fails. You can simply do this by clicking the magnifying glass on the toolbar as shown below.

4. Select the File menu...Save... and save the file to your desktop. This is likely the default location. The name (unless changed) will be LogFile.PML. This is fine.
5. Zip up and provide the link to the LogFile.PML file as well as your CBS.log Examples of services to upload to are Dropbox or OneDrive or SendSpace.

I'm sorry, the previous step is not an option for me the Logfile.zip is too large for my upload speed

CBS.zip

Hi MetroGru

To analyse the issue further I do require the process monitor log.

Is there any way you can run the
process monitor and could someone with an higher upload speed send the 200 - 500mb of data and transmit the log file for you?

Hi MetroGru

Please do the following

SFCFix Script

Warning:
this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop.
  2. Download the file below, SFCFix.zip, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.zip - do not rename it.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
  5. Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please - put </> tags around the log to break up the text.
