I am trying to install update KB4093112 Cumulative update but It gets to 25% install then gives error 0x80070246. I also tried manually installing it but that didn't work either.

Not sure if related but I installed some bad memory a few weeks ago that was causing the computer to crash. Maybe it corrupted my Registry?

I tried running sfc /scannow but it didn't work - says "windows resource protection could not perform the requested operation"

Tried running SFCFix but that failed as well - DISM gets to 4.5% then throws Error 582. Then the cursor just blinks. if I hit a key it generates the SFCFix text document which says it was successful. I'm attaching screen captures of the command windows and also a copy of my CBS log folder

At this point I need help...

Retrieve Components Hive
1. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Config and locate the COMPONENTS file.
2. Please copy this file to your desktop.
Note: If you receive an error that this file is in-use, simply reboot your computer and try again.
3. Right-click on this file on your desktop and select Send To...Compressed (zipped) folder. This will create a file named COMPONENTS.ZIP on your desktop.
4. The file will likely be too large to upload here so please upload toa file sharing service and just provide the link here.

My current windows 10 pro 64 bit version is 1709 build 16299.309

I have patch 2018-04 Cumulative Update for windows 10 version 1709 for x64-based systems KB4093112 in my windows update but it fails when I try to install it. Error 0x80070246

Based on a search, it looks like that KB would bring me to build 16299.371

Yes, I would like to be able to update to the latest version of windows but am unable to.

I tried to manually download this KB from the windows update catalog but the install failed also.

Sorry, I might have been unclear. A new major Windows 10 build (1803) was released today. I asked you if you wanted to try and install that as that would not only get you the patches, but the very latest build of Windows.

Well it kept freezing up the computer when trying to install it. However, I left it overnight and and it succeeded. So hopefully this new version corrected the windows update issue. Guess I won't know until there are new updates issues.

For anyone else that tries that link above, the button to change it to english is in the bottom left corner of the page.

sfc /scannow ran and completed. No issues! Yay!! That update from Microsoft was very timely.

Thank you for the help!
