Hello everyone :)
My Windows 10 Pro is not updating. When I manually click on the update checking button, it shows "There were some problems installing updates, but we'll try again later. If you keep seeing this and want to search the web or contact support for information, this may help: (0x80080005)"
The SFC and DISM scans didn't find anything problematic.
The SFCfix log file is given below:

Windows 10 Pro not updating. Please Help!
The above link is to the same question I asked in the techsupportforum where people kindly directed me to this site.
Windows Edition is Windows 10 Pro, Version 20H2, OS build 19042.1110, Experience: Windows Feature Experience Pack 120.2212.3530.0, Processor is AMD Ryzen 5 3600X, Installed RAM= 32 GB. I also found that there is no 'Windows Update' service in 'services.msc'. I hope somebody can help me with getting my Windows update working. Thank you for reading this post.

Sir, I accidentally forgot to reboot before running FRST.exe and so rebooted and ran it again after downloading Fixlist.txt once more. Hope I didn't mess the whole process up. I am attaching the SFCFix.txt and Fixlog.txt as directed. By the way, the Windows update did run and update a few things, and now it says I am up to date but the OS build is still 20H2. Hope it is a sign that the Windows update problem is almost fixed, sir. Hope you won't scold me for forgetting to reboot.

Hi,

This is no problem at all that FRST ran twice. Now it was only a Fixlist with some checks. Windows 10 20H2 will receive updates till may next year, we will check later if the latest feature update can be installed. But first, run the System File Checker.

  • Click the Start button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
  • When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator.
  • When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following command into it, and press enter.
    Code:
    sfc /scannow
  • When the scan is ready, take a screenshot of the commandprompt window and paste it into your next reply.

Hi,

Great, the System File Checker did not found any corruptions. To install the latest Feature Update (21H2) you can use Microsoft's Update Assistant.

Download the
61c988c2082b1-updateassistent.png
Windows 10 Update Assistant to your desktop.
  • Right-click on Windows10Upgrade9252.exe and select the option: Run as administrator.
  • Press the Update now button, click after the copatibility check on Next.
  • The Update Assistant will now download the latest Feature Update.
  • After verifying the download, the Feature Update will be installed.
  • When this process is ready, click on the Restart now button to complete the installation.

Yay! I am updated to 21H2 sir. Thank you so much.
Edition Windows 10 Pro
Version 21H2
Installed on ‎28-‎12-‎2021
OS build 19044.1415
Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 120.2212.3920.0
Now, if I may ask another question, I had a pop up saying Windows 11 is ready to be installed on my PC, but I clicked 'skip for now'. Do you recommend Windows 11 sir? Thank you again for getting my Windows update working again sir.

Hi,

Your welcome and glad to hear that the problem is resolved.

Windows 10 will remain fully supported through 14 October 2025. At this point, the main reason to upgrade to Windows 11 is for personal preference. But that is my opinion, if you want more information about the pros and cons, feel free to start a new thread in the Windows 11 section here. (y)

Follow the instructions below to remove
577bf0efb8088-FRST.png
FRST and all the log files.
  • Rename the file FRST64.exe to uninstall.exe and run it as Administrator.
  • This will remove all files and folders created by FRST and the tool itself.
  • To complete this the system must be restart.

SFCFix.exe en SFCFix.zip can be removed manually.

Thank you for your kind reply sir. I think I will stay with Windows 10 until I know for sure that the Windows 11 is really stable.
