Hello everyone, any help here before I go to reset my pc, please is there any solution??

Hi and welcome to Sysnative,

Upload your COMPONENTS hive.
  • Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Config and locate the COMPONENTS file.
  • Please copy this file to your desktop.
  • Note: If you receive an error that this file is in-use, simply reboot your computer and try again.
  • Right-click on this file on your desktop and select Send To > Compressed (zipped) folder. This will create a file named COMPONENTS.ZIP on your desktop.
  • If the file is too large to upload here, upload the file to www.wetransfer.com and post the link in your next reply.

Thanks for reply, I have tried dism/restore health with source local install.wim image then restarted pc, then tried sfc scannow and dism/restore helath with no problems, but when I tried to install kb5031356.msu error message said the package is not applicable

Please attach the latest CBS logs, and a copy of the COMPONENTS hive as requested..

Here you go and just to let you know other problems found, windows defender not working or missing, windows installed security updates not shown in control panel, turn windows features on or off is empty when opened.

(...) turn windows features on or off is empty when opened.
Please attach also a copy of the Components Based Servicing hive.

Export CBS (Component Based Servicing) hive

  • When you see regedit on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator.
  • When regedit opens, using the left pane, navigate to the following registry key and select it by clicking on it once.
    Code:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Component Based Servicing
  • Once selected, click File > Export....
  • Change the Save as type: to Registry Hive Files (*.*).

  • Name this file ComponentBasedServicing (with no file extension) and save it to your Desktop.
  • Right-click on the saved file and choose Send > Compressed (zipped) Folder.
  • Attach the .ZIP file to your next post.
  • If the file is too large to upload here, upload the file to www.wetransfer.com and post the link in your next reply.

Unfortunately the Components Based Servicing hive is corrupt beyond repair, it's only 4kB. Do you have recent backups (complete images) of this system?

Then there is no other option than reinstalling the system, or trying to perform a repair install.

Windows 10 Repair Install
This will reinstall and update the operating system and fix any corruptions, without removing any file or program. But make always a backup of all your important data!
  • Go to this Microsoft page and under the title Create Windows 10 installation media press on Download tool now.
  • Save the tool on your Desktop and double click to run it.
  • On the License terms page, if you accept the license terms, select Accept.
  • On the What do you want to do page, select Create installation media (USB....) and then select Next.
  • Choose the ISO file option. Once the download is complete, right click the ISO and select the option Mount.
  • Open the Windows File Explorer and open mounted ISO, and run the setup.exe file.
  • Follow the instructions and click on the option Change what to keep.
  • Select the option Keep personal files and apps and click next.
  • Windows Setup will now start the in-place upgrade installation to repair Windows.

sorry I have very slow internet connection and can't download iso, can I do reset this pc option? will It fix the problem?

Maybe, you can always try this option first. If that doesn't work I would suggest to download the (latest) ISO on a other system with a faster internet connection.

I will try reset option first and I have this iso on my disk: ar_windows_10_core_19041_x64_dvd should I do the reset first or install using this iso file ?

You can try that ISO as well, but when the following window appears with the messgae "Change how Windows Setup downloads updates" choose the option Not right now. I would also suggest to disconnect the system from internet when you try this ISO.

Thanks man I will try reset this pc with keep my files option then see what happens

You're welcome. Let's hope the repair install will resolve all the issues... 🤞

Problem solved with reset and update installed successfully, I think my system was a mess anyway.. 😅 thanks guys

Hi,

You're welcome. Glad to hear all the issues has been resolved after the repair install..
I will mark this thread as solved then.
