Hello, I'm new here on the forum and I'm struggling with getting Windows Update, System File Checker (SFC), and DISM command to work on my PC. I've attached the logs from the operating system for your reference.

Thank you, and I'll be grateful for any advice. I hope that reinstalling the system won't be necessary in the end.

Best regards, Rosta.

Hi and welcome to Sysnative,

Please do the following.

Download the

Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop:

Download the 64 bit version: - Farbar Recovery Scan Tool Link

  • Download the attachment fixlist.txt and save it to your desktop.
  • Right-click on FRST.exe and select "Run as administrator".
  • Press the Fix button.
  • If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally.
  • When finished, a log called Fixlog.txt will appear in the same directory the tool is run from.
  • Post the logfile Fixlog.txt as attachment in your next reply.

Hi,

Step 1. Download

SFCFix and save it to your desktop.

Warning: This fix was written specifically for this system. Do not run this fix on another system.
  • Save any work you have open, and close all programs.
  • Download the attachment SFCFixScript.txt and save it to your desktop.
  • Drag the SFCFixScript.txt file over the SFCFix.exe executable and release it.

  • SFCFix will launch, let it complete.
  • Once done, a file will appear on your desktop, called SFCFix.txt.
  • Post the logfile (SFCFix.txt) as attachment in your next reply.

Step 2. Reboot the system and run the following DISM command and post the result. If it fails attach a new copy of the CBS log.
Code:
DISM /online /cleanup-image /RestoreHealth

Following the instructions, I ran SFCFix, then restarted, and ran the command 'DISM /online /cleanup-image /RestoreHealth' via cmd, but the operation did not complete. I have attached the SFCfix.txt and CBS log to this ticket. Could you please take a look?

Unfortunately SFCFix failed, please do the following.

Please follow these instructions to run the

Farbar Recovery Scan Tool with system privileges.

Download the 64 bit version: - Farbar Recovery Scan Tool Link

Warning: This script was written specifically for this system. Do not run this script on another system.
  • Download PsExec from Microsoft Sysinternals to your desktop.
  • Unzip PsTools.zip to its own directory on the system drive, for example: C:\Tools\PsTools
  • Navigate in an elevated command prompt to the PsTools directory: cd C:\Tools\PsTools.
  • Now copy and paste the following command into the command prompt and press enter. Click on the Agree button when the licence agreement of PsExec appears.
  • Note: Ensure that both FRST64.exe and the Fixlist.txt file are on your desktop! Otherwise you'll need to ammend the command to the right location.
    Code:
    psexec -i -d -s "%userprofile%\desktop\FRST64.exe"
  • FRST will make a new backup of the registry first, please wait until this process is completed.
  • Ensure the provided Fixlist.txt is in the same location as FRST64.exe and then press the Fix button.
  • If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally.
  • When finished, a log called Fixlog.txt will appear in the same directory the tool is run from.
  • Post the logfile Fixlog.txt as attachment in your next reply.

Unfortunately, the fix failed again.

Start the

Farbar Recovery Scan Tool again.
  • Note: Your antivirus program may report FRST incorrectly as an infection. If so, disable the real-time protection when downloading and running FRST.
  • Right-click to run the tool as administrator. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
  • Note: Ensure that the Addition.txt check box is checked at the bottom of the form within the Optional Scan area.
  • Press the Scan button.
  • Please wait for the tool to finish. It will produce two logfiles called FRST.txt and Addition.txt in the same directory the tool is run from (which should be the desktop)
  • Post the logfiles FRST.txt and Addition.txt as attachment in your next reply.

I apologize for the inconvenience. The requested actions have been completed as per the instructions. Please see the attached files.

There are a lot of things to clean-up, but we can do that later. Let's try to fix the Servicing Stack first.

Step 1.
Warning: This fix was written specifically for this system. Do not run this fix on another system.
  • Save any work you have open, and close all programs.
  • Download the attachment SFCFix.zip and save it to your desktop.
  • Drag the SFCFix.zip file over the SFCFix.exe executable and release it.

  • SFCFix will launch, let it complete.
  • Once done, a file will appear on your desktop, called SFCFix.txt.
  • Post the logfile (SFCFix.txt) as attachment in your next reply.

Step 2. Run the following DISM command and post the result. If it fails attach a new copy of the CBS log.
Code:
DISM /online /cleanup-image /RestoreHealth

Attachments

All tasks have been completed. After restarting the PC, the command 'DISM /online /cleanup-image /RestoreHealth' was executed and completed up to 100%, albeit with an error. I have attached the files sfcfix.txt, cbs.log, and dism.log for your reference.

Here's the next fix.

So, after this fix, the DISM command was successfully completed without errors. Therefore, I am only sending the SFCfix.txt file.

Great, since this build 21H2 reached the end of support date on 13-06-2023 I would suggest to upgrade to 22H2 with Update Assistant.

Download the
61c988c2082b1-updateassistent.png
Windows 10 Update Assistant to your desktop.
  • Right-click on Windows10Upgrade9252.exe and select the option: Run as administrator.
  • Press the Update now button, click after the compatibility check on Next.
  • The Update Assistant will now download the latest Feature Update.
  • After verifying the download, the Feature Update will be installed.
  • When this process is ready, click on the Restart now button to complete the installation.

Perfect, thank you very much for your help with the issues. The Windows update to version 22H2 was successful, and the sfc is now also functional. The system as a whole has significantly sped up. Thanks once again, and I will contribute to the forum's operation in the near future. Best regards, Rosta.
