I have spoken to several Microsoft techs and all have seemed to offer decent solutions but none of them have resolved my issue. I have been trying to update Windows since around September of this year. I am currently running Windows 10 Home, Version 1803, as I have not been able to update. I was taken to a prompt by a tech last night: sfc/ scannow which could not run due to an issue. But another prompt DISM something or another said I had a corruption in my configuration registry database. One tech also send me ISO files of versions 1809 and 1909 in which I downloaded but failed to install due to an issue involving a failure to MIGRATE_DATA. I tried to download an app last night on the computer and it also said that the configuration registry database was corrupt. I currently live in Europe, working from America. I do not really have the option for a fresh reboot of Windows 10, starting from scratch as I rely on this computer everyday for work. Any way someone can help me update to the newest version of Windows and correct these issues with my configuration registry database?

No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own. Download DRIVERS.ZIP and save to your desktop. Right-click on it and select Extract all.... Make sure the "Show extracted files when complete" is checked and click Extract. Now we have the DRIVERS file that we will be using to replace your current one. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\config Right-click on the current DRIVERS file and select rename. Rename it to DRIVERS.bad. Note: If you get an error that the file is in use, reboot your computer and then try again. Take the file from the Drivers folder on your desktop and paste it into C:\Windows\System32\config Attachments DRIVERS.zip 796.4 KB · Views: 1

S Sysnative Windows Update Inactive Joined Oct 9, 2014 Posts 773 Dec 27, 2019 #15 Yes, I have confirmed the issue. The COMPONENTS hive is corrupt beyond repair and the only way to repair it is to perform a Repair install of your OS. Unless you have an earlier backup, I can't help you.

As I do not know what was done to the system, I cannot comment on the cause, but this does not happen in normal circumstances. Ensure that your HDD is healthy and with no bad sectors before you reinstall.
