Hi folks. I had this problem very rarely with Windows 7, but ever since upgrading it happens about 90% of the time.
I hit the sleep button for my PC and it fairly quickly goes to a black screen, but the computer stays there indefinitely. Last night I tried to see if I was just being impatient and left it be overnight. Fans were still running this morning.
The only way to get my PC back after this is to hold the power button for 5 seconds and reboot the machine.
This wouldn't be such a problem if, like Mac, windows just re-opened the applications I was working in on reboot... Don't get me wrong, I love Windows, except for this annoying persistent issue.

System:
Code:
Radeon Software Version - 15.11
Radeon Software Edition - Crimson
Graphics Chipset - AMD Radeon HD 5800 Series
Memory Size - 1024 MB
Memory Type - GDDR5
Core Clock - 800 MHz
Windows Version - Windows 10
System Memory - 16 GB
CPU Type - AMD Phenom(tm) II X6 1090T Processor

Powercfg /a:
Code:
The following sleep states are available on this system:
    Standby (S1 S3)
    Hibernate
    Hybrid Sleep
    Fast Startup

The following sleep states are not available on this system:
    Standby (S2)
The system firmware does not support this standby state.

    Standby (S0 Low Power Idle)
The system firmware does not support this standby state.

Powercfg /query is atttached.

I've tried unplugging various USB components to see if it helps. I thought it was my phone doing it because if the phone was plugged in when the sleep button was hit then I could unplug the phone and the PC would enter sleep. But after a few more tests and leaving the phone unplugged before sleep the problem persists. I have it set sot that all of my devices except keyboard are not able to wake the PC.

Not sure what to do next. Thanks for the help!

First, sorry, but I don't have a solution, just adding some thoughts/comments to chew on.

Others have had similar problems, with a variety of fixes - and some where nothing has worked. :(

What if you just let it time out and go to sleep - does it? Or what if you tell it to sleep via the start button instead of a keyboard key?

When it goes to sleep correctly does it consistently wake up correctly?

For some, this has been a graphics card issue and updating the drivers fixed it. But I see you already have the latest. :(

Unfortunately every time I think I find a pattern the pattern works (i.e. unplugging a USB device).
I do believe I've "fixed" it once again.
This time it was resetting the hibernation file via powercfg /hibernate off and then resetting the configuration to default.
So far I've had 10 sleeps with no issue. yay
I'm sure it will creep up again and what I imagine is happening is something in the hibernation file is becoming corrupt.
If only there were some magical way that computers could check files and tell us there were something wrong :P
Anyway, thanks for the attempt at help hopefully my fix works.

That's what the Event logs are for. BUT - the system must be able detect the event and then write the log before the event causes the system to crash. And that is often the "Catch-22" part of it. Often, the event halts Windows preventing the event recorder from detecting and reporting the event.
