Hello,
It's been a while. I'm hoping someone can help. My parents' PC is running Windows 10 though the automatic update to Anniversary 1607 fails to automatically install each day.
I've run the following:
- Windows Update Troubleshooter
- sfc /scannow - Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them
- Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth - Error: 0x80010108 The object invoked has disconnected from its clients.
I've run SFCFix.exe and it produced the following output:

Hi litepurple,

Do you still need assistance with this issue?

Not yet, I live on the other side of the world from my parents so I do my tech support remotely. They're not particularly tech savvy. I was wondering if there were a fix I could do remotely before I go down the path of talking them through creating a media key. Is there something else straightforward I could do?

Thanks.

Can you give me the error code with which the AU fails to install?

It just says "Failed to Install" See attached screenshot. Any ideas? I can't see an error code, unfortunately. Thanks!

Alright, provide me these two logs please.

C:\Windows\Panther\setupact.log
C:\Windows\Panther\setuperr.log

Can you try to install it using the Media Creation Tool? If it fails, let me know if it returns an error code. I think I have part of it (0xC190010E), but I want to confirm.

Thanks Aura,

I might be a few days in getting back to you as I'll have to see if my parents have a USB memory stick. If not, I'll ask them to get hold of one.

All good, I'll be waiting :)

Hi Aura,
Before I tried with the MCT, I could see upgrade error 0x80240fff in the logs.
I've tried with the MCT tool and booted setup from the USB stick, with the following error: "set-up couldn't start properly. Pleas reboot your PC and run set up again"
I've rebooted but I get the same error

In order to upgrade, you need to launch the setup from within Windows. If you boot from the USB, you need to do a clean install, not an upgrade.

Thanks Aura,
I did try to run setup to perform the upgrade from the USB stick, both times from within Windows by running setup from within File Explorer.

Sorry, I've been away for a few days. I'll give this a try in the next couple of days and let you know how I get on. Thanks.

Sorry it's taken so long... I'm only able to do this at the weekends due to the time zone differences and me needing my dad there at the other end to do the plugging and unplugging!

Anyway, I've followed those instructions and also run Windows Cleanup to remove the temporary Windows update files and also Windows update troubleshoot er to clean up store corruption. The result is that sfc /scannow finds no corruption and nor does sfcfix.exe. However, I still have exactly the same issues trying to get the Anniversary Update to install. In Settings/Update, there's the following error message: "If Windows 10 is unable to install Windows Updates due to "We can't install some updates because other updates are in progress"

When I try to install from the USB media I've created, a few times, I get "Setup Couldn't Start Properly. Please Reboot Your PC" - Despite rebooting multiple times.

Any ideas? I'm completely stuck, to be honest.

Thanks for your help! LP.

First thing I would like you to do is...

1. Click Download Tool Now from the following link and save this to your desktop.
Windows 10

2. If you are asked to overwrite the existing file, please do. Then go ahead and open this file (MediaCreationTool.exe).
3. Accept the terms. When asked What do you want to do please select "Create installation media for another PC" and click Next.
4. Click Next to confirm the Language, Edition and Architecture that is on the PC.
5. At the "Choose which media to use" please select ISO file and click next.
6. Browse to your desktop and save this Windows.iso file.
7. Once it finishes downloading, go ahead and double-click on the Windows.iso file. It should mount and open in File Explorer. You will see a bunch of files/folders. Double-click on setup.exe and attempt the upgrade.

Let me know how it goes. If any errors appear, please note them and let me know what they are.
