Several attempts to update to Windows 10 22H2. I have tried a lot of the solutions posted online but none seem to work. The install gets to about 85% and quits. I have run the wureset.exe tool and when I choose option 7 Scan the image for component store corruption (The DISM /ScanHealth argument), I get this error:
An error occurred while attempting to start the servicing process for the image located at C:\.
For more information, review the log file.

The DISM log file can be found at C:\WINDOWS\Logs\DISM\dism.log

I have run Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and I have attached the files as requested. TYIA. Cheers.

Hi and welcome to Sysnative,

You're system is infected with a known trojan which is also causing problems with Windows Update.

Step 1. Please remove the following from the software list:
- Web Companion

Step 2. Start the

Farbar Recovery Scan Tool again.

Warning: This script was written specifically for this system. Do not run this script on another system.
  • Download the attachment fixlist.txt and save it to your desktop.
  • Right-click on FRST.exe and select "Run as administrator".
  • Press the Fix button.
  • If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally.
  • When finished, a log called Fixlog.txt will appear in the same directory the tool is run from.
  • Post the logfile Fixlog.txt as attachment in your next reply.

Great, please do the following first.

Download
5e73b10539364-ESET_OnlineScanner.png
ESET Online Scanner and save it to your desktop.
  • Right-click on esetonlinescanner_enu.exe and select Run as Administrator.
  • When the tool opens select the English language and click on Get Started.
  • Accept the license agreement, and select in the "Before we start..." screen the following options:
    • No thanks, I am not interested. (if you don't want to share anonymous data with ESET.)
    • Enable feedback system (recommended).
  • Click on Continue and click on the Full Scan option.
  • Select Enable ESET to detect and quarantine potentially unwanted applications - then click Start scan. (This may take some time.)
  • When the scan is ready and if threats have been detected, select Save scan log. Save it to your desktop as Eset.txt. Click on Continue.
  • ESET Online Scanner will now ask if you'd like to turn on the Periodic Scan feature. Disable this option if you don't want to plan the periodic scan.
  • Click on Continue If you left feedback, click Submit and continue. If not, Close without feedback.
  • Attach the scan log Eset.txt to your next reply.

Downloaded and used ESET Online Scanner. The system downloaded module updates, download failed. No scan log created.

Started Windows Update and after one hour it was completed. Believed it is working now. Appreciate all the help.

Hi,

Glad to hear you was able to update! But please provide new logs of FRST to review.

Start the

Farbar Recovery Scan Tool again.
  • Note: Your antivirus program may report FRST incorrectly as an infection. If so, disable the real-time protection when downloading and running FRST.
  • Right-click to run the tool as administrator.
  • Note: Ensure that the Addition.txt check box is checked at the bottom of the form within the Optional Scan area.
  • Press the Scan button.
  • Please wait for the tool to finish. It will produce two logfiles called FRST.txt and Addition.txt in the same directory the tool is run from (which should be the desktop)
  • Post the logfiles FRST.txt and Addition.txt as attachment in your next reply.

Ran eset tools again. When it finished it showed a empty box for threats. No Eset txt document was created.

Running ESET within about 40 minutes is rather fast, and a little too fast to beleive it showed an empty box of threats.

1. Normally, a scan with ESET takes several hours to complete.
2. Have you performed the steps I posted or not?
3. That said, when ESET had been fully run it should have found threats in FRST's quarantine folder anyway.

I removed NordVPN and tried the ESET scan again, this time from the start menu as the desktop shortcuts were not working.

Hi,

Great, are there any remaining issues? If not please do the following to remove FRST.

Follow the instructions below to remove
577bf0efb8088-FRST.png
FRST and all the log files.
  • Rename the file FRST64.exe to uninstall.exe and run it as Administrator.
  • This will remove all files and folders created by FRST and the tool itself.
  • To complete this the system must be restart.

Hi,

You're welcome. Glad we could help, I will mark this thread as solved...(y)
