Tried lots of stuff - not getting anywhere! Attaching screen shot of SFCFix output and DISM.log. I also tried DISM with source pointing to a downloaded ISO (Windows10Upgrade9252.exe), but no joy.

Thanks for looking.

C:\WINDOWS\system32>sfc /scannow

Looking at your logs it appears as if you have a number of manifest and catalogue files missing.

Let's see if we can replace these for you.

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop.
  2. Download the file below, SFCFix.zip, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.zip - do not rename it.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
  5. Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Please Attach this file into your next post for me to check.

Once this is done then redo the SFC /scannow and if it completes with no errors you can try to update again. If there are errors please post the new set of CBS logs. If the SFC /scannow fails you can also try the DISM restorehealth again.

Many thanks for this. The procedure seemed to work, and I attach the SFCfix.txt file. However it doesn't seem to have fixed my problem. I ran SFC /scannow, and DISM, and they behave as before. The restorehealth options paused for a few minutes at 62.3% before finishing abruptly. I also rebooted and tried Windows Update again, but to no avail. I attach the CBS log file.

I should mention that in an earlier attempt to fix the problem, I deleted the content of \Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download. 14 of the deleted files are still in the recycle bin.

C:\WINDOWS\system32>sfc /scannow

There is good progress but there is more to fix before it all works as it should. Here is the next set of files to fix. I've named the new zip file SFCFix2.zip so that you don't get confused. Feel free to delete the previous zip file now that you have used it.

Thanks again. As before, the procedure worked, but did not yet fix the problem. SFC and DISM behave as before. SFCFix.txt and CBS.zip attached.

Amazing! Not quite sure how, but you fixed it. SFC and DISM work as expected, and I'm fully up to date now.

Thank you.
