[SOLVED] Windows 10 21H2 SFC/DISM Corruption issues

Hi folks,

I had recently fully reinstalled Windows 10 but after a bad shutdown, I got the dreaded "attempting repairs..." prompt. I did an initial SFC/DISM run but when that did not work I used the Windows 10 ISO to do a in-place reinstall.

Now this seems to have resolved the "attempting repairs..." screen, but unfortunately SFC/DISM are still complaining about file corruption issues.

I tried to run SFCFix but that crashes once I start running the program. The only output in SFCFIX.txt is as follows:

Code:
SFCFix version 3.0.2.1 by niemiro.
Start time: 2022-07-31 17:07:05.780
Microsoft Windows 10 Build 19044 - amd64
Not using a script file.

SFCFix version 3.0.2.1 by niemiro has encountered an unhandled exception.
Currently storing 0 datablocks.
Finish time: 2022-07-31 17:07:09.279
----------------------EOF-----------------------

Attaching the CBS Logs folder as recommended in the Posting instructions.

Any help/suggestions on how to fix this would be most welcome!

Hi and welcome to Sysnative,

I'll need to setup a new VM to collect some replacement files, so this can take some time.

Hi,

The file SFCFix.zip is too big to attach, so I've uploaded the file here: SFCFix.zip

Step 1.
Warning: This fix was written specifically for this system. Do not run this fix on another system.
  • Save any work you have open, and close all programs.
  • Download the attachment SFCFix.zip and save it to your desktop.
  • Drag the SFCFix.zip file over the SFCFix.exe executable and release it.

  • SFCFix will launch, let it complete.
  • Once done, a file will appear on your desktop, called SFCFix.txt.
  • Post the logfile (SFCFix.txt) as attachment in your next reply.

Step 2. Run the following DISM command and post the result. If it fails attach a new copy of the CBS log.
Code:
DISM /online /cleanup-image /RestoreHealth

Hi Maxstar,

Step 1 seems to have proceeded smoothly - see attached the SFCFix.txt that was saved.

Unfortunately, DISM did not complete successfully and is complaining about a new set of corrupted files. See attached the latest CBS log as zip file.

Well that's not good news. Right now the machine seems to be stable in operation & rebooting so that's some good fortune.

Latest run of SFCFix completed successfully without any errors. Attached is SFCFix.txt

DISM is stating there are more corrupted files. Worryingly I think a couple of these are files that we had patched in previous SFCFix files specifically amd64_dual_netwtw06.inf_31bf3856ad364e35_10.0.19041.1_none_2263b23b85449a62\Netwtw06.sys and amd64_microsoft-windows-dynamic-image_31bf3856ad364e35_10.0.19041.1288_none_b508821aea842ab0\n\WindowsDefenderApplicationGuard.wim. Attached is latest CBS log.
