Dear,

I'm currently working on a Windows 10 1909 laptop, and it won't install the latest cumulative updates.
sfc /scannow found some issues, however sfcfix wasn't able to resolve them. SFCFix first highlighted the type of corruption would take longer, and started DISM. DISM then complained it could not resolve the issue due to missing source. Then SFCFix ended with stating it did not find any corruption.

Trying to install KB5006667
Error code when updating: 0x800F0988

DISM/CBS error code: 0x800f081f

Corrupt payloads, which seem unrepairable:

As of May 11, 2021, the Windows 10, version 1909 have reached end of servicing. Devices running these editions will no longer receive monthly security and quality updates containing protections from the latest security threats. Education, Enterprise, and IoT Enterprise editions of Windows 10, version 1909 will reach end of servicing May 11, 2022.

I recommend that you update your devices to the latest version of Windows 10 as soon as possible to ensure that you can take advantage of the latest features and advanced protections from the latest security threats.

Hi FreeBooter, thanks for the advice. This device will be upgraded in January 2022, but I'm afraid that upgrade won't work either with the issues I have. So I'd like to first resolve this update issue, before starting any major upgrades.

What, exactly, do you mean by this?

Something has clearly been wrong with Windows Update on this machine if it's been up and running and in contact with cyberspace on a routine basis. There have been a number of feature updates since 1909, and at least one of them should have applied long before now.

Forcing the upgrade after having taken a system image backup is your best course of action. You can always recover from the backup if necessary.

Hello @jeroenv

I was looking back through old threads and wondered if you had resolved this?

Upgrading the system to 21H2 the normal way resulted in new error codes, not much of a surprise. I then did a repair install with the instructions of britechguy (Thanks!), which did work. I now have a working system which updates well. So thanks a lot for the support.
