I tried to update windows manually by running windows update. I am running Windows 8.1 I started windows update last evening about 7 PM and it is now about 17 hours later at 12:33 pm. Only 12 things are being updated. The box has 0 KB total, O% Complete. The last successful update was 3/31 and there were many successful previously.

I was going to run SfcFix but it wanted me to close all open programs. I did not do that---- yet. I will wait another 12 hours or so or until I hear from you guys. I am going to donate now

Re: Winows update spinning on windows 8.1 computer

Windows update froze after about 20 or so hours. I could not shut off with the power button. I unplugged and then replugged and rebooted. I ran windows update check for updates and again got 9 imp and 5 optional-- this is good. I closed out. I ran SFCfix. Re: Winows update spinning on windows 8.1 computer

I ran sfc/scannow It got 28% through and reported that Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation.

Re: Winows update spinning on windows 8.1 computer

I booted into safe mode and reran sfc/scannow in the built in administrator account. It again got 28% through and the "Windows resource protection could not process the requested operation" message appeared again. I copied the cbs.log file to my desktop as sfcdetais.txt

Re: [Win8.1] Win.Update spinning

Hi and welcome to Sysnative. Sorry for the delay. Do you still require assistance?

Re: [Win8.1] Win.Update spinning

Hi Brian

We worked together before. Yes I still need help. My post tells you what is going on and what I have done so far. Thanks for the help

Re: [Win8.1] Win.Update spinning

Yes I remember! Welcome back. Start with the following.

Step#1 - SFCFix Script
Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop. If you still have this on your desktop from downloading previously, you don't need to re-download.
  2. Download the file below, SFCFix.zip, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.zip - do not rename it.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
  5. Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please

Re: [Win8.1] Win.Update spinning

Please do the following.

SFC Scan
1. Right-click on the Start button and select Command Prompt (Admin)
2. When command prompt opens, Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Right-click > Paste) the following command into it, then press Enter
sfc /scannow

3. Once it finishes, copy and paste the following into the command-prompt window and press Enter.
copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt"

4. Once this has completed please go to your Desktop and you will find CBS.txt => Right-click on this file and choose Send To...Compressed (zipped folder). Please upload this zipped file CBS.zip to this thread

Please Note:: if the file is too big to upload to your next post please upload via a service such as Dropbox or One Drive or SendSpace and just provide the link.

Re: [Win8.1] Win.Update spinning

I have been following instructions while running back and forth to the TV watching the Masters. It has concluded for the day.

The above did not go as you planned. At some point in the run, I was asked to insert the installation disk and if I did not have it press enter to continue with alternative measures. it went to running DISM. I got error 1812. I am attaching the DISM log. I used a link.

As always, thanks for doing this. I am with you full time now until you say quit for the evening. I am in Easter daylight time and it is now 7:41

Re: [Win8.1] Win.Update spinning

I started ( about 20 minutes ago) a rerun of what you had requested before. It seems to be running better than before, with none of the messages like previously. I am at stage 4a and no problems yet. It is now 9:05. I will post my results.
