[SOLVED] [Win8.1 x64] Update repeatedly offers KB2919355, KB2990967, and KB3063843

Windows 8.1 update repeatedly offers and fails to install the following patch sets: amyuni document converter, KB2919355, KB2990967, and KB3063843. How can I get past this?

I see that you have solved this through a variety of means for other people but warn not to use their patches.View attachment 26859

SFCFix Script

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.


  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop.
  2. Download the file below, SFCFix.zip, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.zip - do not rename it.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
  5. Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please - put tags around the log to break up the text.

FYI, I noticed that the drive has 4.4GB free, can that be an issue?

- Ran an update that failed.
- Reran SFCfix.exe with output file attached.
- Ran another update that claimed it was successful
- Rebooted
- Observed the 3 updates offered
- Ran install
- Dialolg says "3 updates were installed"
- Ran check for updates
- Observed that 4 updates offered, the base 3 in question and windows defender
- Ran install
- Claimed successful 4 installs
- Check for updates
- Observed that the 3 updates were offered again
- Ran install of the 3
- Observed claim that install succeeded
- Waited for system to become idle
- Copied the CBS.log file and compressed and attached it here.
 

Attachments

- I grew the filesystem ( it is a virtual machine using Fusion) by 20 GB
- rebooted
- Ran install that claimed success
- Ran check for update
- Offered the 3
- Ran install
- Claimed success

So growing the filesystem, not surprisingly, didn't affect it.
 
In this post:

Based on reading this I tried:
  • Setting App Readiness to Automatic
  • Rebooting
  • Updating/installing/updating still showed 3 updates
  • Deselected KB2919355 and installed the other two
  • Rebooted/Check for updates/Observed 3 updates plus defender offered
  • Installed the "other two" which claimed successful.
  • Installed KB2919355 which claimed successful (leaving the defender uninstalled)
  • Rebooted
  • Check for updates/Observed 3 updates offered (plus defender makes 4)

So I guess the idea that App Readiness was it wasn't it.

I'm not sure why I didn't try it before, but I ran chkdsk and it listed errors even though the dialog suggested it wasn't needed... So I:
  • Ran "chkdsk /f" and rebooted.
  • Check for updates/observed 4 updates offered/Installed all but defender (for speed)
  • Claimed succeeded
  • Rebooted/Went ahead and installed the remaining defender/Claimed success
  • Checked for updates/While running, looked at CBS.log and noticed it was truncated./It presented all 3 again.

So I started trying the list of steps in here and will report back:

Retrieve Components Hive
 1. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Config and locate the COMPONENTS file.
2. Please copy this file to your desktop.
Note: If you receive an error that this file is in-use, simply reboot your computer and try again.
3. Right-click on this file on your desktop and select Send To...Compressed (zipped) folder. This will create a file named COMPONENTS.ZIP on your desktop.
4. The file will likely be too large to upload here so please upload to SendSpace and just provide the link here.

    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log %userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt
  4. This will create a file, cbs.txt on your Desktop. Please attach this to your next post.

I tried a cycle of update and it still offered the three updates...

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.


  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop.
  2. Download the file below, SFCFix.zip, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.zip - do not rename it.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
  5. Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please - put tags around the log to break up the text.

Step#1 - DISM /RestoreHealth Scan

  1. Right-click on the Start button and select Command Prompt (Admin)
  2. When command prompt opens, Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Right-click > Paste) the following command into it, then press Enter
    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
  3. Once it finishes, copy and paste the following into the command-prompt window and press Enter. If prompted to overwrite the existing file go ahead.
    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt"
  4. Once this has completed please go to your Desktop and you will find CBS.txt => Please zip/upload to this thread.
    Please Note:: if the file is too big (over 7MB) to upload to your next post, please upload via a service such as Dropbox or One Drive or SendSpace and just provide the link.
