Tried again today to install KB3000850. No luck. Error code 800700A1.
Ran SFC/scannow which found corrupt files and unable to fix.
Saved CBS log immediately.
SFCFix ran earlier in day which found nothing.
Can I get a fix??

Hello and welcome to the forum :)

Due to the precise nature of your corruption, you will receive help from a user named BrianDrab. He's one of our senior trainees here who's in his final phrase of his studies and needs to gain some real world experience in specific areas of Windows Update. This means that he'll be assisting you, but that I will first need to double check and approve his fixes before he posts them to you. If anything this is a good thing for you because it means that you've got at least two of us watching over your thread, but it will unfortunately add a slight delay between each reply. I hope that you understand and can accept the need for us to train up new members in this way in order to carry on doing what we do here, however, if for any reason you object to this setup, I will happily take on your thread myself.

Thank you very much for your understanding. We'll be with you very shortly.

Alex

Thanks for responding. The update failure does not seem to affect the rest of the computer operations so I have some time. Another 33 MS updates were
released yesterday (3-10)!!! I have tried to add another CBS log saved after SFCFix but I can't get to upload a second file.

Hi and welcome to Sysnative. Let's see if this gets you fixed up.

Step#1 - SFCFix Script
Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop. If you still have this on your desktop from downloading previously, you don't need to re-download.
  2. Download the file below, SFCFix.zip, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.zip - do not rename it.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
  5. Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please

Step#2 - Verify Corruption is fixed
1. Right-click on the Start
w8start.png
button and select Command Prompt (Admin)
2. When command prompt opens, Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Right-click > Paste) the following command into it, then press Enter
sfc /scannow

3. Once it finishes, copy and paste the following into the command-prompt window and press Enter.
copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt"

4. Once this has completed please go to your Desktop and you will find CBS.txt => Please upload CBS.txt to this thread

Please Note:: if the file is too big to upload to your next post please upload via a service such as Dropbox or One Drive or SendSpace and just provide the link.

Items for your next post

I have created a Dropbox account and included the CBS.txt.
Can you access it?? I am really unfamiliar with it.

If you put the file in Dropbox then if you right-click on the file within the dropbox folder you should get an option Copy Public Link. Then you can paste that link in this thread. Let me know if you still need help with this.

Perfect, good job. I see one last thing that needs addressed. I'll be back with you soon as I need to get my post approved first.

Awesome! Your logs are clean and free of corruption. You should be able to install KB3000850 now. It's not uncommon to have to install the update manually after fixing corruption so if it doesn't install from Windows Update you can download and install from here. Let me know how it goes.

Brian
Thanks so much for your time and effort.
The update went smoothly this time using the Windows update, not manually.
You have a magic touch.
Now I can work on the other 32 updates!!!

It is good to see everything is up and running again for you :)

Could you please do me a favor? I am collecting samples of this corrupt file to hopefully get an automatic fix and report the findings to MS to fix.

Could you please go to the following path: C:\SFCFix\Backups\C\WINDOWS\winsxs\amd64_microsoft-windows-com-dtc-runtime_31bf3856ad364e35_6.3.9600.16384_none_0a1162f033fa01f6

You should see a file called MSDTC.LOG -> right click on this file -> 'Sent To' click on 'Compressed (Zipped) File' -> name the file MSDTC_JCE51.zip and attach this file to your next post.
