The first clue that I had a problem was when and Adobe program wouldn't open. I totally uninstalled it and reinstalled it but then starting getting other weird issues like my laptop randomly freezing for several seconds and my browser triggering script errors upon start.

I ran SFC and there is some kind of corruption. I tried to let SFC fix but it said there was error it could not fix. Next I ran chkdsk and when it completed I ran SFC again. It still had some stuff it couldn't fix so I ran DISM. This process has been stuck at 40% for over 12 hours.

I am pretty good at troubleshooting maleware issues, which I don't think caused this, but WIN issues are beyond and I don't want to break anything.

I was going to paste the CBS log but so far it has been running an hour and this is all it has given me so far (it did ask me to insert my install CD but I do not have an install CD for Windows):

Due to the nature of your corruptions, scan times have been extended by
approximately 15-20 minutes. Please be patient and allow the operation to
complete.

Hi and welcome to Sysnative. Sorry for the delay.

The corruptions that you have from the SFC scan are telemetry related and can safely be ignore. Microsoft is aware of the issue and will be resolving. They don't affect the operation of your machine. Let's try to get that DISM run finished so we can see if anything else Windows Update/Servicing related is wrong. Please do the following.

Step#1 - DISM /RestoreHealth Scan
Warning:this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. First, perform a Clean Boot of your machine. Then continue.
  2. Right-click on the Start
    w8start.png
button and select Command Prompt (Admin)
  3. When command prompt opens, Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Right-click > Paste) the following command into it, then press Enter
    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
  4. Once it finishes, copy and paste the following into the command-prompt window and press Enter. If prompted to overwrite the existing file go ahead.
    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt"
  5. Once this has completed please go to your Desktop and you will find CBS.txt => Please zip/upload to this thread.
Please Note:: if the file is too big (over 7MB) to upload to your next post, please upload via a service such as Dropbox or One Drive or SendSpace and just provide the link.
