Hi,
I've been Googling my problem for about a month now. I've tried all sorts of fixes with net stop xxxx and Fix It Center and free Windows Repair tools (tweaking.com), etc.

Not sure how long ago, but an update failed to install properly. When I couldn't fix it at the time, I just shut off Windows Updater for the restarting to stop. But now, I'd actually like to fix the problem.

Please help!

Windows 7 Professional
SP 1
Intel Core2 Duo E8500 3.16ghz
4g of Ram
64-bit

having issues uploading the CBS.zip file. the circle spins after I hit "upload", but then nothing when it stops.

Re: Windows 7 Updater wants me to constantly restart

Please wait for a certified analyst to take a look at your case. If you're having trouble with the forum uploader, upload the files somewhere and post a link to it in your thread.
Thank you.

Re: Windows 7 Updater wants me to constantly restart

Hi and welcome to Sysnative. Sorry for the delay. Are you still in need of assistance?

Re: Windows 7 Updater wants me to constantly restart

yes
i haven't done anything since uploaded the CBS.
The Updater is even asking to reboot still and i haven't.

Re: Windows 7 Updater wants me to constantly restart

Please do the following.

1. Click your start button and type cmd in the search box.
2. Right-click on cmd that comes up in the search results and select Run as administrator. Answer Yes to the UAC prompt if it appears.
3. Copy/Paste the following into the command-prompt window and hit enter.
reg query HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\WindowsUpdate /s >1.txt && notepad 1.txt

4. Notepad will open showing the WU info. Can you copy and paste this into your next reply?

Re: Windows 7 Updater wants me to constantly restart

Please do the following.

FRST Fix
NOTICE: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on that particular machine. Running this on another machine may cause damage to your operating system
1. Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop.
Note: You need to run the 64-bit Version so please ensure you download that one.
2. Download attached file and save it to the Desktop.
Note. It's important that both files, FRST64 and fixlist.txt are in the same location or the fix will not work (in this case...the desktop).
3. Run FRST64 by Right-Clicking on the file and choosing Run as administrator.
4. Press the Fix button just once and wait. If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally. After that let the tool complete its run.
5. When finished FRST64 will generate a log on the Desktop (Fixlog.txt). Please post the contents of it in your reply.

Re: Windows 7 Updater wants me to constantly restart

Reboot your computer and let me know if the constant prompting to reboot is gone.

Re: Windows 7 Updater wants me to constantly restart

Reboot took longer than usual, but i'm up.
No Windows Updater icon in Systray.
Control Panel, System, Windows Updates has a red X on it asking for me to check for updates.
Checking for Updates is taking a long time. i'll update again once it's done.

Re: Windows 7 Updater wants me to constantly restart

looks good.
32 critical updates found. downloading and installing them now.

i thikn we can call this thread solved/closed

thanks so much!
