[Win7SP1Pro x64] Component Store Corruption. SURT TDCC: 5881.

Hello!

I'm running Windows 7 Professional SP1 (64-bit), and tried installing KB4022719 (June Monthly Security/Quality Rollup). Windows Update failed with error code 8007007A (unknown error). Previous monthly updates had installed successfully.

I ran SURT (a number of time) which now consistently reports 5881 Component Store errors (mostly CSI Missing Deployment Keys - 5716). I have attached the latest CheckSUR.log file.

I ran sfc.exe /scannow, which reported that "Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them". I have attached the CBS.log file as CBS.zip.

I then ran SFCFix.exe, which reported that "Some corruptions could not be fixed automatically", and showed the "SURT total detected corruption count" as 5881 (all other corruption counts reported by SFCFix.exe were 0). I have also attached SFCFix.txt.

I would greatly appreciate any help that can be provided to fix this Component Store corruption.

Thanks in advance for any help provided.

Steve

Thanks for the reply! Yes, I still need assistance, as I have not been able to fix these issues. Any help that you can provide would be great!

That's real good. Because of the amount of corruptions, it may be unrealistic to surgically fix. Since you have the media however, a repair install may fix all your issues. A repair install will NOT wipe out any data or programs that you have installed. This is NOT like a fresh install. But as always, make sure you have a backup of any critical data in case something unforseen happens.

Basically you can put in your DVD while your system is booted and run the Setup program and do a repair. Details and step by step instructions are in the following link. Please let me know if you have any questions and also how it goes.

Thanks for the advice. I'll do a bit of research on a Repair Install, and take a look at the SevenForums link you provided. Before proceeding, I'll make sure I have a current full backup.

I am a bit surprised that I need to reinstall Windows, as everything else (except Windows Update) 'seems' to be working fine, and as I mentioned above, Windows Update was also working fine up until last month. At some point last month I changed from updates "For Windows only" to updates "For Windows and other products from Microsoft Update" (basically I enabled Microsoft Update when I was updating Silverlight). Could changing this setting have screwed up Windows Update on my computer? Thanks.

Very interesting! It's possible. Thanks for the information. Let me know what you decide to do. I can still attempt to fix it without the repair but we have less of a chance doing it than the repair install. Thanks.
