Hello and welcome

Due to the precise nature of your corruption, you will receive help from a user named softwaremaniac. He's one of our senior trainees here who's in his final phase of his studies and needs to gain some real world experience in specific areas of Windows Update. This means that he'll be assisting you, but that I will first need to double check and approve his fixes before he posts them to you. If anything this is a good thing for you because it means that you've got at least two of us watching over your thread, but it will unfortunately add a slight delay between each reply. I hope that you understand and can accept the need for us to train up new members in this way in order to carry on doing what we do here, however, if for any reason you object to this setup, I will happily take on your thread myself.

Thank you very much for your understanding. We'll be with you very shortly.

SFCFix Script

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop.
  2. Download the file below, SFCFix.zip, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.zip - do not rename it.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
  5. Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please

SFC Scan

  1. Click on the Start button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
  2. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
  3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each

    sfc /scannow

Wait for this to finish before you continue

    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log %userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt
  4. This will create a file, cbs.txt on your Desktop. Please attach this to your next post.

Re: SFC finds corruption in two dll files. using sfc fix does not auto fix the proble

While thanking you very much for your considered reply, i wish to state that i had not known that sfcfix.zip is individually oriented. On logging to your account, i just copied a solution, just thinking that it is a general needed file to execute correctlly to fix corrupted sfc. I also noted that warning of individual fixes in the thread.
After your instructions, i get no error report, if i just execute the sfcfix.exe. But on seeing the cbs.log after the instructions, the file was created at the desktop. But , it not only contained the specific time log. Instead it contained about 3days log and the size is bigger than the previous one.
So, i took ownership of the file and deleted all the entries, and did the same sfc scannow. The file contains so much pending renames, of which i do not have any idea. If you please tell me, i will be happy.
Now, i am enclosing herewith the two logs as per your idea

Re: SFC finds corruption in two dll files. using sfc fix does not auto fix the proble

Hi, I noticed the log and found that , there is mention of sfcfix.txt, without using script.
Here is the sfcfix.txt with using the script zip. It has confused me a little bit, that without using the script, i get no error. But the cbs log is sized at 6 mb size with so much pending renames in it. The sfc scan details does not convey anything in log, it goes on line by line increasing the size of the log file.
Please let me know, whether my problem is resolved. Why then there is huge log file

Re: SFC finds corruption in two dll files. using sfc fix does not auto fix the proble

Hi, Brian and software ..
After applying your specific fix, the scannow reports no integrity violations and i thank you for your sincere effort in solving the problem.
But on viewing the cbs.txt created, there are number of entries, which is not explaining anything about the fixes. I assume that the missing files have been provided and they were executed to fix the problem.
But why the microsoft does not care deep about this? It should be auto detect the fix and do the needful . There may be number of systems which would not have attempted sfc /scannow.
Is my presumption correct, in that there are corruptions in some of the system files and it fetches from the installed folders of windows and winsxs to fix this . If those files in two locations or still more locations, are also corrupted, the sfc scan reports there are errors, but failed to fix automatically.
By chance, i came to the site and accordingly get my problem solved.
But what are those pending renames of so much lines. Even, the present cbs.txt contains so much lines of not understandable words or alphanumeric characters .
I sincerely feel that you are doing much service in this regard, than microsoft.
If i see some threads in ms forum, they simply say repair windows or get the files from the installation DVD, without realizing that it involves permission and other issues of take ownership.
Please see the logs and confirm that problem is solved.
I also presume that my source dvd or the install folders are having corrupted files so that could not be repaired. Does that mean that if i have these fixes executed after installation, my sfc scan would show no integrity violations.
I feel less is done in this regard by microsoft for windows 7.
Please confirm that the sfc problems are fixed and if possible , write about how the sfc scans? I find move..and other type of hitherto not heard phrases of repairs in the cbs.log

Re: SFC finds corruption in two dll files. using sfc fix does not auto fix the proble

Could you please attach cbs.log and sfcfix.txt created, so I could check that everything was indeed fixed?
You are correct about SFC looking for files in the store, and if it can't find them, it reports them as missing/corrupt.
Is there anything else I could assist you with?

Re: SFC finds corruption in two dll files. using sfc fix does not auto fix the proble

Hi, Software..
I tried but that was a huge file with 6 mb not allowed by the forum. Then i took ownership and deleted the contents and re run the sfc scannow and now i am enclosing the same with this . If for academic purpose, please say something about pending renames, i have not heard.I did not attempt any renaming of the files. please. I also find the winsxs folder storage is increasing day by day. Can i delete the files in there or is there any way to safely delete those with some mechanism. pl

These are not necessarily the errors that need fixed. Ignore them. As for deleting the contents of winsxs folder to reduce its size, no, you may not.
And I can confirm your problem is solved!
