Thank you so much for your help! I really really appreciate it :). How do you think my computer got like that, and how can I prevent it in the future?

Normally the type of corruption I saw within your machine is only caused by bad memory, bad CPU, bad motherboard or hard shut-downs like when the power goes out or just pulling the plug on the machine. I'm glad you are all set. Take care.

I've had this computer for.. awhile now, so maybe it's just getting old? I have no clue. I'm happy that it's all fixed up though . Thanks again so much. I really appreciate everything! I have another computer with Windows Update issues... but I'll save that for another day when I have more time :).
