View attachment SFCFix.txtHello,

I ran into a problem with Windows Update. I ran Chkdsk and SFC /scannow, SFC.exe
I received errors (multiple) in a CBS log
I ran the Microsoft malware utility which came up with no corruption
Also ran Microsoft easy fix for Window Update.
I saw a discussion mentioning SFCFix in a forum and followed a link here.
I downloaded and ran SFCFix.exe but not all errors were repaired.
I received a message to post a thread here.
SFCFix File should be attached.
Thanks for whatever help can be offered.

Fred

Hello and welcome,

Follow the instructions below please.

  1. Click on the Start button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
  2. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator.
  3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following command into it, then press enter.

    Code:
    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt"
  4. This will create a file, cbs.txt on your Desktop. Please attach this to your next post.
Note: if the file is too big to upload to your next post please upload via a service such as Dropbox or One Drive or SendSpace and just provide the download link.

Also attach the logfile C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log in your next reply.

Hello Peter,
And thank you for your help
Attached are the two files you requested.
I appreciate your taking a look at them
Best wishes,
Fred

Hi Peter,

I followed your direction.
Thanks for your time and help
If this works it will be hard for me the express my appreciation.
Because I know how much time and headache you are saving me.
If it doesn't I still greatly appreciate the time you invested trying to help.

Hello Peter,
I feel like I just went to a Las Vegas magic show.
What has affected the laptops ability to download updates is gone.
SFC reports no problems found.
I am indeed fortunate to have stumbled across the information posted that led me to this website.
And to the help you offered to me, as well as others.
It downloaded the critical update that had repeatedly failed.
And another (although a non critical update did not go through)
I will monitor for a couple weeks and report back.
But yes, I feel obligated to support the site.

Best wishes,

Fred

If Windows Update still fails, please run SFC /scannow again.
Attach the CBS.log to your next reply as instructed in message #3.

Hi Peter,

I ran as administrator SFC /scannow again
when I enter %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt"
I get a message saying access is denied

when I enter %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt"
Did you include the "copy " command ?

Please see your post above, it has the cbs.zip attached
When I try to update I get this error
"WindowsUpdate_800F020B" "WindowsUpdate_dt000"

Please zip the files CbsPersist_<datetime>.cab in the folder C:\Windows\Logs\CBS and attach it to your next reply.
