Hello again,

I have some trouble with a client installing the update KB4025341. I allready tried the sfc /scannow. It repairs some files and now there are no further errors found by the tool.
Also I repaired windows update by some fix its, but nothing worked for me.
Do you have an idea?
Thanks a lot.

Dirk

Hello and welcome

Due to the precise nature of your corruption, you will receive help from a user named softwaremaniac. He's one of our senior trainees here who's in his final phrase of his studies and needs to gain some real world experience in specific areas of Windows Update. This means that he'll be assisting you, but that I will first need to double check and approve his fixes before he posts them to you. If anything this is a good thing for you because it means that you've got at least two of us watching over your thread, but it will unfortunately add a slight delay between each reply. I hope that you understand and can accept the need for us to train up new members in this way in order to carry on doing what we do here, however, if for any reason you object to this setup, I will happily take on your thread myself.

Thank you very much for your understanding. We'll be with you very shortly.

Re: [win7 x64] Install of KB4025341 fails with error code 80070057

Step#1 - System Update Readiness Tool (SUR)
1. Download and run the following file.
2. When it asks you if you wish to install, please answer yes. Note: It could take 15 minutes or more to run. Please don't cancel.
3. You will get an Installation Complete screen when it's done running.
4. Please attach the log from the following location. C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log
Please Note:: if the file is too big to upload to your next post please upload via a service such as Dropbox or One Drive or SendSpace and just provide the link.

1. Download KB4025341 (make sure you select the version that applies to your OS) and save to your desktop. Go ahead and attempt the install from this downloaded file.
2. If it fails, please zip/attach the following log:
C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log

Re: [win7 x64] Install of KB4025341 fails with error code 80070057

Step#1 - Retrieve Components Hive
1. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Config and locate the COMPONENTS file.
2. Please copy this file to your desktop.
Note: If you receive an error that this file is in-use, simply reboot your computer and try again.
3. Right-click on this file on your desktop and select Send To...Compressed (zipped) folder. This will create a file named COMPONENTS.ZIP on your desktop.
4. The file will likely be too large to upload here so please upload to SendSpace and just provide the link here.

Re: [win7 x64] Install of KB4025341 fails with error code 80070057

Sorry, but am not able to copy the file components to the desktop.
I tried several accounts but everytime I get the error that the file is in use by system. Of course I have restarted the pc a lot of times. I try to took ownership from the component file, too but without any success.
What can I do else?

Retrieve Components Hive

  • Please download the Freeware RegBak from here: Acelogix Software - Download products
You will find it at the bottom of the page that the link brings you to.
  • Go ahead and install this program and accept all the defaults. After the last install screen the program should open.
  • Click the New Backup button. Accept the defaults and simply click Start.
  • When it says Finished successfully, click the Close button.
  • This will bring you back to the main screen of the program. You will see one entry in this list with the date that you did it. Right-click on this line-item and select Explore Backup...
  • This will bring you into the folder where the backup was made. You should see a Users folder and a Windows folder along with a couple other files. Double-click on the Windows folder to open it. Then open the System32 folder and then config folder. You should see around 6 files in here, one of which is named COMPONENTS.
  • Copy the COMPONENTS file to your Desktop. If the COMPONENTS file does not exist, please fetch it instead from C:\Windows\System32\config\COMPONENTS.
  • Now right click on the COMPONENTS file that is on your desktop and select Send to > Compressed (zipped) folder.
  • Then please upload the zip file (COMPONENTS.zip) to your favourite file sharing website (it will be too big to upload here). Examples of services to upload to are Dropbox or One Drive or SendSpace and then just provide the link in your reply.
  • You can close any open windows you have as well as the RegBack program now.

Re: [win7 x64] Install of KB4025341 fails with error code 80070057

Sorry, but the COMPONENTS file is missing in the backup folder and copying it from C:\Windows\System32\config\COMPONENTS is also impossible.

Re: [win7 x64] Install of KB4025341 fails with error code 80070057

Step#1 - FRST Registry Backup
1. Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop.
Note: You need to run the 64-bit Version so please ensure you download that one.
2. Right click to run as administrator. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
3. Once the tool is open, navigate to the following directory and see if the COMPONENTS file is shown. If it is please zip/attach.

Re: [win7 x64] Install of KB4025341 fails with error code 80070057

To which directory should I navigate? And what should I do with the Farbar Recovery Tool? Sorry!

Re: [win7 x64] Install of KB4025341 fails with error code 80070057

I'm sorry. You should navigate to C:\frst\Hives after running the tool and check if the file is there. If it is, upload it for me.

Re: [win7 x64] Install of KB4025341 fails with error code 80070057

No problem but the file "components" is also missing in the C:\FRST\Hives folder. :-(

SFCFix Script

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop.
  2. Download the file below, SFCFix.txt, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.txt - do not rename it.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.txt.
  5. Drag the file SFCFix.txt onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Attach the file into your next post for me to analyze.
