Hello,

I am looking for help in how to track down what Windows update/patch/feature contains the following .cat/.mum files. I do tech support and have seen this a couple times where the .cat/.mum do not contain the KB update number, but have never found good way to determine where to locate those files. Can anyone help me please with the process to determine where to locate those files? I know how to repair it if I had the files, I just don't know where to locate them.

The files in this particular example are here:

Thanks!

Unfortunately there isn't a real good easy way to track these down. Sometimes you can search for the version number (i.e. 7.1.7601.16492) in Google and find it. From experience though I can tell you that the ones you are looking for are likely IE related, language pack related or platform update related. I believe the update you are looking for is KB2670838.

Hope this helps.

Hi BrianDrab,

Yes! That is exactly the droid KB I am looking for. Interestingly, I do have that KB installed. After looking into it a little further, it looks like the search I was doing to try to find them in my own servicing/Packages directory does not like the "~" character from notepad copy/paste. After replacing each "~" with "?" and searching again, I was able to find those files on my system. Sorry to waste your time on that part...

Dang. I was hoping there was a way to trace the .cat/.mum files like you can with the .manifest files, but I guess it's not that easy. Either way, thank you very much for your assistance. Have a great day!
