Re: How do I fix all these "CSI C Mark Deployment Missing" errors? (win7)

Hi zcomputerwiz,
I don't replace faulty memory in this machine recently.

After windows update,
0x80070246 ERROR_ILLEGAL_CHARACTER error log occurred. I have both Chinese and English language package in my win7. If this makes the 0x80070246 error, how do I fix this situation to let windows update ok? Thank you.

Re: How do I fix all these "CSI C Mark Deployment Missing" errors? (win7)

These errors are usually caused by bad memory, if you have not run a memory test please do so now.

Once the RAM has been verified (and replaced if necessary), we can continue with the repairs on the components hive.

Re: How do I fix all these "CSI C Mark Deployment Missing" errors? (win7)

Hi zcomputerwiz,

You reminds me that I do have replaced faulty memory in this machine one year ago. The fault DRAM memory always causes pc restart unexpectedly. After replace a new DRAM, everything works fine.

I still run the MemTest+ program for executing 2 more hours, and the test result captured as attached image link for your refernece (no error).

Thank you for the help.

Re: How do I fix all these "CSI C Mark Deployment Missing" errors? (win7)

Step 1 - Replace Components Hive Manually

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Download COMPONENTS.ZIP and save to your desktop.
  2. Right-click on it and select Extract all.... Make sure the "Show extracted files when complete" is checked and click Extract.
  3. Now we have the COMPONENTS file that we will be using to replace your current one.
  4. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\config
  5. Right-click on the current COMPONENTS file and select rename. Rename it to COMPONENTS.bad.
Note: If you get an error that the file is in use, reboot your computer and then try again.
  6. Take the file from the Components folder on your desktop and paste it into C:\Windows\System32\config

Next, run the System Update Readiness Tool again and when it completes, attach C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log with your reply.

Download COMPONENTS.zip from Sendspace.com - send big files the easy way

Re: How do I fix all these "CSI C Mark Deployment Missing" errors? (win7)

Hi zcomputerwiz,
It works! The replaced Componet file reduces most of the errors. The content of CheckSUR.log below for your reference.
Thank you very much!

Re: [Win7SP1] How do I fix all these "CSI C Mark Deployment Missing" errors?

Hi zcomputerwiz,
After execute windows update, I found some patch failed (most of them succeed). It seems [HRESULT = 0x80070246 - ERROR_ILLEGAL_CHARACTER] causes the failure.

Here is the CBS.log for your reference. Thank you!
