Re: Some Windows Updates Failing on W7 Home

The forum software timed out on me, so I have to post this follow-up message instead of editing the one above. I was not able to upload the CBS.zip file. I assume it's too large. vBulletin never shows it as being uploaded. I tried twice. The large file uploading service is not working, either. Here is the message I received after trying twice. It appears that the script cannot tell that I'm logged in and that I have posted this message:

EDIT: I see that you accept SendSpace uploads. Here it is.

Re: Some Windows Updates Failing on W7 Home

Hi and welcome to Sysnative. Please do the following again. Thanks.

Step#1 - System Update Readiness Tool (SUR)
1. Download and run the following file.
2. When it asks you if you wish to install, please answer yes. Note: It could take 15 minutes or more to run. Please don't cancel.
3. You will get an Installation Complete screen when it's done running.
4. Please attach the log from the following location. C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log
Please Note:: if the file is too big to upload to your next post please upload via a service such as Dropbox or One Drive or SendSpace and just provide the link.

Re: Some Windows Updates Failing on W7 Home

Please do the following.

SFC Scan

  1. Click on the Start
    Start%20Orb.jpg
button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
  2. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
  3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each

    sfc /scannow

Wait for this to finish before you continue

    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log %userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt
  4. This will create a file, cbs.txt on your Desktop. Please attach this to your next post.

Please Note:: if the file is too big to upload to your next post please upload via a service such as Dropbox or One Drive or SendSpace and just provide the link.

Re: Some Windows Updates Failing on W7 Home

OK, good. Please check for Windows Updates and attempt to install only one of them. Let me know which KB is was that you attempted. If it fails, please zip up and attach a copy of your c:\windows\logs\cbs\cbs.log.

Thanks.

Re: Some Windows Updates Failing on W7 Home

I tried installing Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB3060716), but it failed. The log file you requested is showing as 75MB, so the attached version is a zip file. Please let me know if I need to upload the unzipped version to SendSpace. Thanks.

Re: Some Windows Updates Failing on W7 Home

I see the issue.

Code:
2017-03-03 09:26:20, Error CBS Failed to resolve package 'Package_84_for_KB3022345~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.1.1.2' [HRESULT = 0x80070490 - ERROR_NOT_FOUND]
2017-03-03 09:26:20, Info CBS Failed to resolve package [HRESULT = 0x80070490 - ERROR_NOT_FOUND]

Please try the following first.

Remove Update Manually
1. Click on the Start
Start%20Orb.jpg
button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
2. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following command into it, press enter
wusa /uninstall /KB:3022345

4. Let me know if it says it was successful or if there are any errors.

Re: Some Windows Updates Failing on W7 Home

"The update KB3022345 is not installed on this computer."

Re: Some Windows Updates Failing on W7 Home

That's what I figured. We need to clean up the registry. Please do the following.

FRST Registry Search
1. Click your Start button and choose Control Panel.
2. In the upper right corner ensure the View by: is set to Category.
3. Select the Programs group.

4. Click the Turn Windows features on or off link. This will bring up the Windows Features dialog. Wait until this dialog populates with information.
Note: This loads your components hive which is what we want. Please keep this dialog open while you perform the remaining steps.
5. Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop.
Note: You need to run the 64-bit Version so please ensure you download that one.
6. Run FRST64 by Right-Clicking on the file and choosing Run as administrator.
7. Copy and paste
KB3022345 into the Search box and click the Search Registry button.
Search.JPG

8. When the scan is complete a notepad window will open with the results. Please copy and paste the contents in your next reply. If for some reason notepad doesn't open the file should be
saved on your desktop named Search.txt.
9. You may close any remaining open windows now.

Re: Some Windows Updates Failing on W7 Home

I tried pasting the contents of SearchReg.txt into the message on two computers, but the forum software is choking, so I have attached the file.

Re: [Win7SP1Home] Some Windows Updates Failing

Thanks. Please do the following.

Step#1 - SFCFix Script
Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.
  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop. If you still have this on your desktop from downloading previously, you don't need to re-download.
  2. Download the file below, SFCScript.txt, and save this to your Desktop.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCScript.txt.
  5. Drag the file SFCScript.txt onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please

Re: [Win7SP1Home] Some Windows Updates Failing

Thanks. You need to zip them first in order to attach to the forum but uploading them to SendSpace is fine as well. Try installing Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB3060716). If it fails, please zip/attach the CBS.log again.

Re: [Win7SP1Home] Some Windows Updates Failing

It installed correctly, and now I'm being told to reboot.

Re: [Win7SP1Home] Some Windows Updates Failing

The problem appears to be solved. Thank you! Please tell me what the problem was. (I understand that it was corruption.)

It is very kind of you to help. I will make a donation to the site, and I'm going to tell others about you, as well.

Re: [Win7SP1Home] Some Windows Updates Failing

There was a problematic update KB3022345 that never fully installed correctly so we had to remove all remnants from the registry. I'm glad it worked. Thanks for the nice comments regarding our site. Take care.
