I'm running Win7 Home Premium 64 bits on an i3-2100 CPU @ 3.10Ghz Lenovo machine with 6GB ram. Due to lack of use I've only recently noticed that IE11 which was installed in 2014 via Windows Update "icon is no longer present on the desktop" nor is it responding from "Start/Programs".
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling IE11 through MS update but still no change in prior situation. This led me to run sfc/scannow multiple times with no joy and showing "missing MSDTC/LOG" files.

The machine functions 'normally' with no other obvious problems, weekly Malwarebytes and Sophos Home AV scans show no infections, but I'm concerned if the 'missing files' may be the fore-runner of some deeper problem. Google has not helped either.
Any assistance in correcting the situation will be greatly appreciated. CBS log to follow.

Thanks BrianDrab, and yes I still do require your expert assistance.
P.S. I've been perusing some of your 'solved threads' on this forum.
Since posting this thread and reinstalling IE 11 then 10 via Win update I've gotten back the icon but it opens to a blank screen, as is Secunia PSI. I don't know if that was related to this thread so I posted a new thread with those and referred to this one also in that post.
I'm unable to attach files to my threads, don't know why. so I've placed them in my DropBox acct.
Now how do I share them with you?

Let's get a fresh log. Please do the following.

SFC Scan

  1. Click on the Start button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
  2. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
  3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each

    sfc /scannow

Wait for this to finish before you continue

    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log %userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt
  4. This will create a file, cbs.txt on your Desktop. Please attach this to your next post.

Please Note:: if the file is too big to upload to your next post please upload via a service such as Dropbox or One Drive or SendSpace and just provide the link.

copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log %userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt

OK, as diercted, BrianDrab;
sorry I was absent all of yesterday. Had a preplanned day out with the grand-kids which started way before your reply email came in.

Please do the following.

Step#1 - SFCFix Script
Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop. If you still have this on your desktop from downloading previously, you don't need to re-download.
  2. Download the file below, SFCFix.zip, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.zip - do not rename it.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
  5. Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please

Ctrl+C/Ctrl/V doesn't seem to work for me. Hope this Copy/Paste helps.

That log looks good now. Please do the following.

Step#1 - System Update Readiness Tool (SUR)
1. Download and run the following file.
2. When it asks you if you wish to install, please answer yes. Note: It could take 15 minutes or more to run. Please don't cancel.
3. You will get an Installation Complete screen when it's done running.
4. Please attach the log from the following location. C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log
Please Note:: if the file is too big to upload to your next post please upload via a service such as Dropbox or One Drive or SendSpace and just provide the link.

OK. So I ran update twice. Installed successfully KB's 3185319, 4012218, 3078601 and IE11 for x64 systems.
KB 3124275 failed to install.
IE 11 still opening to "blank" screen, as is Secunia PSI.

OK, please zip up and attach or upload your c:\windows\logs\cbs\cbs.log file.

I will also need your c:\windows\ie11_main.log

Thanks.

I.m getting this when I try to upload the new CBS file to Sendspace.
