Hi,

I have a Win7 computer that had an overheating CPU and was crashing at regular intervals. I finally replaced the blown caps (due to the heat) on the motherboard and cleaned out the CPU heat sink to get her up and running again. But when I attempt to login to my acct., I end up with an error message: "The User Profile Service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded." It then promptly logs off and displays the logon screen again.

So I activated an Administrator acct. as a login option, using the Computer Management section in safe mode, and am able to login that way.

But whenever I go into User Accounts and attempt to select "Manage Another Account," to attempt recommended repair options, I get an Explorer Crash error message, and Explorer crashes and restarts again. So I am unable to administrate the user accounts section.

I have errors in the system event log, which only appear in the timeline after I repaired the motherboard and attempted booting the system, related to User Profile Service: "The system cannot find the path specified." Also, upon successfully logging on with the Administrator account profile, I get the following popup window: "C:\Windows\system32\config\systemprofile\Desktop refers to a location that is unavailable..." So apparently, data has been wiped from the User\[acct. name] folder.

I've attempted the corrupt user acct. profile fix with the reg editor, going into the .bak listing in user accounts and removing the .bak, changing the 2 values to "0", and restarting, to no avail. I have also attempted a system restore, but it fails and I end up with the same issue at login.

Would really appreciate it if anyone could possibly help me recover this user account and/or Win7 install so I don't lose all my important installed programs data. Thanks!

** UPDATE **

After running SFC and attempting a second System Restore of a later date, it appears everything is back to normal; Even though the System Restore gave me an error at the OS open, telling me the Restore procedure had failed... and, ironically, the System Restore console actually registered the Restore procedure as successful. Odd; But then, it's a Microsoft product, so I wouldn't expect anything better from it. ;-)

Anyhow, no more problem. And all the new, upgraded polymer capacitors and my soldering work - work! Woohoo!
